When Jalen Hood-Schifino’s name is called on Thursday evening, it will be the first time since 2019 that a former IU basketball player has been chosen in the NBA Draft. IU football picked up a commitment from class of 2024 safety Keion Dunlap on Monday afternoon. Dunlap announced his commitment to Indiana on his social media pages. https://twitter.com/dun1ap/status/1670870190639153185?s=20 Dunlap made the announcement coming off of a weekend official visit to IU. The 6-foot-1 and 190-pound Dunlap attends Enterprise H.S., a Class 7A program in Enterprise, Ala.  He also plays basketball at the school. Dunlap is a 3-star prospect according to Rivals and 247Sports.  He’s not ranked by On3 and ESPN.  247Sports says he’s the No. 55 safety in the 2024 class. The Hoosiers offered Dunlap in March. One of the fastest rising shooting guards in the class of 2024 is North Carolina based Austin Swartz. Swartz entered the spring a bit under the radar, but he’s posted massive numbers on the Nike EYBL. With 21 points per game, Swartz was the third-highest scorer on the Nike EYBL Circuit this spring. He added 3.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists while shooting 44.3 percent from the field overall including 37.2 percent from three, and Swartz made 88.9 percent from the stripe. There are just a few more weeks before AAU basketball wraps up and rising seniors go fully into college decision mode. As things stand right now, IU will have a minimum of three roster openings next season — the spots occupied by super seniors Xavier Johnson and Anthony Walker, along with the currently unused scholarship. Indiana may get a chance to host class of 2024 5-star big man Flory Bidunga on his final official visit. IndyStar high school reporter Kyle Neddenriep wrote on Saturday “the five-star prospect plans to visit Indiana on an official visit prior to making his (college) decision.” The 6-foot-10 Kokomo H.S. center is ranked No. 4 overall nationally according to the On3 Industry Average.  He’s taken multiple visits to IU but hasn’t taken a longer official visit to this point. Thursday was the first day that college basketball staffs could make direct contact with rising juniors. To be clear, Indiana and other staffs have been having conversations with players in the class of 2025 for a long time, but until Thursday those connections were facilitated by coaches and parents. College football is just two and a half months away, and well known analyst Phil Steele unveiled his 2023 preseason All-America and All-Big Ten teams this week. Indiana is represented with two players on the All-America squad and a total of five Hoosiers received All-Big Ten recognition. Steele named return specialist and running back Jaylin Lucas second team All-America and long-snapper Sean Wracher fourth-team. Steele also named Lucas and Wracher first-team All Big Ten. Class of 2024 5-star point guard Boogie Fland took an official visit to Indiana this week along with his family. Fland attends Stepinac H.S. in New York, and he plays on the Nike EYBL Circuit for the PSA Cardinals.  He is ranked No. 7 overall in the 2024 class according to the On3 Industry Average, and he’s the No. 1 point guard. Part of learning basketball at Indiana is learning how to recruit. Second through ninth grade students are at the Mike Woodson Basketball Camp this week in Bloomington, and they started serenading class of 2024 wing Tyler Betsey on Wednesday at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. “We want Tyler,” the campers chanted, encouraged by Woodson, who said “I can’t hear you” as they did their part to pitch in on Betsey’s recruitment.  “They know their basketball here in the state of Indiana,” Woodson said approvingly of the kids.
