For the second year in a row, the NBA is coming to Bloomington in October. The IU basketball program is hosting representatives from all 30 NBA teams at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall today for the program’s NBA Pro Day. The event gives the IU basketball players an opportunity to workout in front of decision makers and people of influence from around the league. Coach Mike Woodson started what appears to be a new tradition last year. Excited for our players to compete in front of 30 NBA teams today at our annual NBA Pro Day! pic.twitter.com/F4CwJ5qm7c — Coach Clif Marshall…

When it comes to homegrown talent, the state of Indiana appears to have its mojo back a bit in the class of 2025. Recruiting publication On3 updated its class of 2025 basketball prospect rankings, and five in-state products landed in the national top-150 for high school juniors. Here they are, based on the industry average of the main ranking services: Jalen Haralson, 6-foot-7 guard, 5-star, No. 8 (La Lumiere, originally from Fishers H.S.) Trent Sisley, 6-foot-7 forward, 4-star, No. 52 (Heritage Hills H.S.) Braylon Mullins, 6-foot-5 guard, 4-star, No. 95 (Greenfield Central H.S.) Azavier Robinson, 6-foot-1 guard, 3-star, No. 114…
IU football coach Tom Allen introduced Rod Carey on Wednesday. A Madison, Wis. native, the 52-year-old Carey takes over for the outgoing Walt Bell. Today we empty out the notebook on Bell’s departure, Carey’s history, and what to expect going forward. ——————————– Housekeeping: Walt Bell’s Buyout The Daily Hoosier obtained a copy of Walt Bell’s contract when he was hired in 2022. The term runs through the end of 2023, meaning Bell’s buyout is relatively insignificant. He’s owed approximately $58.3 thousand per month through the end of December, for a total buyout of around $175 thousand. Carey is a Permanent…
Los Angeles Lakers rookie guard Jalen Hood-Schifino has been opening eyes during the first week of training camp. The one-and-done Indiana star was drafted with the 17th pick in the first round of the 2023 NBA Draft, so he’s expected to be an important part of the franchise’s future relatively soon. But he seems to be accelerating the process with a title-contending team. Tell me if this assessment by Lakers head coach Darvin Ham sounds like the Hood-Schifino you know: “He plays with a lot of moxie, he plays with stability,” Ham said on Wednesday. “You can’t speed him up,…
Logan Duncomb announced on Wednesday evening he decided to step away from the game of basketball for health reasons. The former IU player thanked people at IU, Xavier and his high school for helping him along the way. Duncomb transferred from Indiana to Xavier during the offseason. The Cincinnati product had sinus surgery in early February. The 6-foot-9 Duncomb was not part of Indiana’s main rotation during his 2022-23 sophomore season. He averaged 2.9 points in nine appearances. Duncomb played an average of 5.7 minutes in those contests. He produced 10 points and five rebounds in 17 minutes in a…
In addition to figuring out how to get the Hoosiers in the end zone, new IU football offensive coordinator Rod Carey has to determine who will be his starting quarterback. Or at least he’s not ready to talk about that just a few days into his new role. Carey was not willing to discuss anything about personnel on Wednesday in his first public appearance since being named Indiana’s OC. Perhaps nothing will change, but he declined to say who will be behind center when the Hoosiers face Michigan in Ann Arbor a week from Saturday. In addition to his offensive…
The full IU basketball staff will spend Wednesday together on the road. In addition to visiting 2024 top-20 guard Boogie Fland in New York, Mike Woodson and all three assistants will fly to central Florida to visit Derik Queen and Liam McNeeley at Montverde Academy on Wednesday, The Daily Hoosier learned earlier this week. This is the third time Woodson has been to Montverde in the last three weeks, and the second time they’ve visited with their full staff during that span. Along with Fland, Indiana is in a strong position with both McNeeley and Queen. Here is what The…
2024 guard Boogie Fland is in decision making mode, and Indiana is in closing mode. Indiana is sending Mike Woodson and all three assistant coaches to New York on Wednesday to visit the 6-foot-3 top-20 guard. The Hoosiers are competing with Kentucky and Alabama for Fland, who is likely to decide on a college in the next couple weeks, perhaps sooner. Kentucky and Alabama both had coaches in to visit Fland earlier this week. Indiana is in a strong position with Fland. Here’s what we wrote about that on Monday in case you missed it: Once Indiana decided to go…
The long awaited return of the Indiana vs. Kentucky basketball series will arrive in 2025. First reported by Jon Rothstein, IU and Kentucky have agreed to the following four games series: Dec. 20, 2025, Rupp Arena, Lexington Dec. 27, 2026, Lucas Oil Stadium (IU home game) Dec. 18, 2027, Rupp Arena, Lexington Dec. 16, 2028, Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, Bloomington IU has confirmed the report. Mike Woodson has earned a reputation as a recruiting closer during his time in Bloomington. That’s largely a notion based on his ability to win short recruitments in the spring, but it seems more likely by the day he’ll earn commitments from one or more high school players he and his staff have been recruiting for the long haul. With a month to go until the November early signing period, it’s closing time for the class of 2024. Sometimes a recruit includes a school in a group of finalists more as window dressing. We don’t believe that’s the case with…
