For the second year in a row, the NBA is coming to Bloomington in October. The IU basketball program is hosting representatives from all 30 NBA teams at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall today for the program’s NBA Pro Day. When it comes to homegrown talent, the state of Indiana appears to have its mojo back a bit in the class of 2025. Recruiting publication On3 updated its class of 2025 basketball prospect rankings, and five in-state products landed in the national top-150 for high school juniors. IU football coach Tom Allen introduced Rod Carey on Wednesday. A Madison, Wis. native, the 52-year-old Carey takes over for the outgoing Walt Bell. Los Angeles Lakers rookie guard Jalen Hood-Schifino has been opening eyes during the first week of training camp. The one-and-done Indiana star was drafted with the 17th pick in the first round of the 2023 NBA Draft, so he’s expected to be an important part of the franchise’s future relatively soon. Logan Duncomb announced on Wednesday evening he decided to step away from the game of basketball for health reasons. The former IU player thanked people at IU, Xavier and his high school for helping him along the way. Duncomb transferred from Indiana to Xavier during the offseason.  The Cincinnati product had sinus surgery in early February. The 6-foot-9 Duncomb was not part of Indiana’s main rotation during his 2022-23 sophomore season. He averaged 2.9 points in nine appearances. The full IU basketball staff will spend Wednesday together on the road. In addition to visiting 2024 top-20 guard Boogie Fland in New York, Mike Woodson and all three assistants will fly to central Florida to visit Derik Queen and Liam McNeeley at Montverde Academy on Wednesday, The Daily Hoosier learned earlier this week. This is the third time Woodson has been to Montverde in the last three weeks, and the second time they’ve visited with their full staff during that span. 2024 guard Boogie Fland is in decision making mode, and Indiana is in closing mode. Indiana is sending Mike Woodson and all three assistant coaches to New York on Wednesday to visit the 6-foot-3 top-20 guard. The Hoosiers are competing with Kentucky and Alabama for Fland, who is likely to decide on a college in the next couple weeks, perhaps sooner.  Kentucky and Alabama both had coaches in to visit Fland earlier this week. Mike Woodson has earned a reputation as a recruiting closer during his time in Bloomington. That’s largely a notion based on his ability to win short recruitments in the spring, but it seems more likely by the day he’ll earn commitments from one or more high school players he and his staff have been recruiting for the long haul. With a month to go until the November early signing period, it’s closing time for the class of 2024.
