With the late addition of forward Mackenzie Mgbako, IU coach Mike Woodson has secured a national top-20 recruiting class for the second year in a row. Overall, the IU basketball 2023 recruiting class now ranks No. 15 in the country according to the On3 industry average, which takes into accounting their own rankings along with 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN to form a consensus view. Indiana softball punched their ticket to the NCAA regionals, earning the No. 2 seed in the Knoxville Regional from May 19-21. It will be IU’s first time back in the NCAA Tournament since 2011, and first appearance under head coach Shonda Stanton. The Hoosiers will face No. 3 seed Louisville on Friday at 3 p.m. ET at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.  That game will air on ESPN2. After landing 5-star Kel’el Ware in the transfer portal from Oregon, and 5-star Mackenzie Mgbako in the class of 2023, it seems like Indiana has a bit of recruiting momentum. The massive seasons logged by Trayce Jackson-Davis and Jalen Hood-Schifino, both expected to be drafted in the NBA next month, have no doubt played a role in that recent success on the recruiting trail. When he announced his commitment to Indiana on Friday, Mackenzie Mgbako became the 32nd IU player who took part in the event since it started in 1977.  The Hoosiers had two players on that inaugural team. Trayce Jackson-Davis was the most recent player to achieve the prestigious honor.  He’s expected to be selected in the NBA Draft in June.  Prior to TJD, 9 of the last 10 McDonald’s All-Americans from IU went on to see action in the NBA. Ohio based wide receiver Javier Etheridge committed to Indiana on Saturday. The 5-foot-11 and 160-pound athlete announced the decision at a ceremony at his school, Cincinnati Mount Healthy. Etheridge is a 3-star according to the 247Sports Composite, and the No. 120 overall athlete in the country. He chose the Hoosiers over a top six that also included Penn State, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. Carmelo Anthony continues to deliver for Mike Woodson. And although he attended Syracuse, Anthony will quickly become a fan favorite in Bloomington if he keeps this up. Two years ago Trayce Jackson-Davis was trying to get the scoop on then new IU basketball head coach Mike Woodson. Indiana got a massive boost to its outlook for the upcoming season on Friday evening.  The Hoosiers have landed 5-star class of 2023 recruiting target Mackenzie Mgbako. The 6-foot-8 Mgbako announced the news on his Instagram page.  He ultimately chose IU over Kansas and he also considered Louisville and St. John’s after decommitting from Duke in April. “I chose IU because I felt that Coach Woodson can put me in a position to expand and develop my game,” Mgbako told Joe Tipton of On3.  “The environment at Indiana is unmatched.  It’s a place where I felt support from the coaching…

On a day when IU basketball fans are already on edge about a major decision that will effect the 2023-24 roster, we learned a coveted backcourt talent is headed elsewhere. Penn transfer guard Jordan Dingle is headed to St. John’s according to multiple reports. Class of 2024 shooting guard Jonathan Powell is a 4-star from Ohio.  Last week he said he’ll focus on six schools in his recruitment. Along with IU, Powell says he’s considering Clemson, Michigan State, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, and Xavier. Indiana is going after a number of wing prospects in the 2024 class, so it will be interesting to see where this one goes as both sides narrow their focus.
