Mike Woodson pulled off a recruiting coup when he landed Mackenzie Mgbako in May. Listed at 6-foot-8 and 215 pounds by Indiana, Mgbako is the highest rated recruit IU basketball has landed since Romeo Langford. He decommitted from Duke in April, and one month later he was a Hoosier. A 2023 McDonald’s All-American, Mgbako arrived at IU this summer as a 5-star recruit, ranked No. 8 on Rivals, No. 9 on ESPN, and No. 10 on 247Sports. Mgbako got to IU in early June and completed an eight-week program with the team and staff. Several of his teammates and Woodson…

The IU basketball staff is hosting a coaches clinic for the first time under Mike Woodson. The two day event will be held Sept. 29-30 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington and will afford the opportunity for the IU coaches and support team to build relationships with a network of coaches while sharing their deep collective insights. Indiana’s team of coaches and staff have over 190+ years of NBA and college basketball experience. Headlined by Woodson, the rest of the staff participating will include former IU players and Indiana natives Calbert Cheaney, Randy Wittman, and Jordan Hulls. Current assistant…
Indiana has offered class of 2025 wing Amari Allen, he announced on his Twitter page on Monday evening. IU also offered his AAU teammate Kai Rogers on Monday. The duo play for the Wisconsin Playground on the UAA Circuit. The 6-foot-7 and 200-pound Allen is from Wisconsin, and he enrolled at IMG Academy in Florida a year ago. As most sophomores do on national teams like IMG, Allen had more of a reserve role in 2022-23. IU has pursued a number of IMG products since Mike Woodson took over, including Tamar Bates and Bryson Tucker. Allen was teammates at IMG…
Indiana has offered class of 2025 center Kai Rogers, he announced on his Instagram page on Monday evening. The 6-foot-10 Rogers is a player who has been on the IU radar going back at least to the early part of the spring. He attends Wauwatosa West H.S. (Wauwatosa, Wis.). For travel basketball Rogers plays for Wisconsin Playground on the UAA Circuit where he averaged 13.3 points on 63 percent shooting, and added 7.9 rebounds and 2.0 blocks. He is a spring and summer AAU teammate of another player the staff offered on Monday, 2025 wing Amari Allen. Indiana is at…
Thanks to a major donation, IU football is on track to catch up competitively from a facilities standpoint, at least in one regard. The program currently shares its weight room at Memorial Stadium with other sports throughout IU Athletics, creating scheduling challenges, and competitive disadvantages in recruiting. This development is the first in what could be multiple major steps forward when it comes to football facilities. The program is also well behind when it comes to the quality of its indoor practice space, something head coach Tom Allen acknowledged at Big Ten Media Days last week. The full release from…
During each offseason we go in depth on the players returning to the IU basketball program to assess their career to date performance and what to expect next. For 2023-24 the Hoosiers have just six players coming back due to a combination of the NBA Draft, eligibility, and the transfer portal. Next up in the series is sophomore guard C.J. Gunn ———————————– THE 2022-23 NUMBERS The 6-foot-6 Gunn entered his freshman season at IU not expected to take on a major role in the rotation, and for the most part that’s how things played out. Gunn saw action in 20…
By no means will Indiana be facing an easy schedule anytime soon. But for the first time in a decade, the Hoosiers won’t face all three of Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State every season beginning in 2024. How much of a difference will it make to not have to try to beat three of the top ten teams in the country every year, IU football coach Tom Allen was asked at Big Ten Media Day in Indianapolis on Thursday. “What do you think?” Allen asked back with a playful grin. Indiana has gone 2-25 vs. the big three since…
Greenfield, Ind. based class of 2025 guard Braylon Mullins is having a strong spring and summer, and the high major offers are beginning to follow. The 6-foot-5 Mullins has received more than 10 new offers this summer, including Virginia Tech and Iowa in July. The IU staff has watched Mullins on multiple occasions and had him in for a visit when Indiana played Little Rock last November. The IU staff trio of Brian Walsh, Jordan Hulls and Adam Howard are all involved with the in-state product. Purdue, Notre Dame, Butler, Cincinnati and Ohio State are some of the other high…
Class of 2024 5-star big man Derik Queen will make a return visit to Indiana. Queen will come to Bloomington Sept. 8-10, The Daily Hoosier confirmed with his AAU coach. The Indiana 247Sports site reported the news first. That’s the same weekend Queen’s class of 2024 5-star high school teammate Liam McNeeley will visit Indiana. The Montverde Academy products also visited IU the same weekend a year ago in September. When Queen and McNeeley visited last year they were hosted by former Montverde products Jalen Hood-Schifino and Malik Reneau. Queen was teammates with both players during the 2021-22 season at…
Tayven Jackson and Brendan Sorsby were not alive to see it. Not even close. In fact, Jackson’s father was not even in high school yet when Indiana last defeated Ohio State in football in 1988. So it goes without saying, there’s no sense in giving the Buckeyes any additional advantages for their season opener against IU on Sept. 2 in Bloomington. That’s head coach Tom Allen’s thought process when it comes to making a public announcement after he chooses between Jackson and Sorsby at fall camp in August. “I don’t ever want to give our first opponent anything extra that…
