In accordance with Big Ten rules, Indiana will be posting an availability report before every game this year. Expect to see freshman guard Jakai Newton’s name on it for a while. The 6-foot-3 and 203-pound Georgia native had a knee procedure in August, was at IU’s media day in September on crutches, and was walking with a limp at Hoosier Hysteria a few weeks ago. According to coach Mike Woodson, Newton is slowly but surely making progress and rejoining some team activities, but he’s got a long way to go, and notably, may not play at all this season. “Early…

After winning the Big Ten regular season crown a year ago, Indiana hopes there’s no fall from Grace in 2023-24. The Hoosiers return most of the key contributors from last year’s team, but they do face the reality of playing without Grace Berger for the first time in five years.  Berger recently completed a successful rookie season with the Indiana Fever. Berger concluded her five-year career with 1,841 points, 573 assists and 752 rebounds. She ranks seventh all-time in scoring and second in all-time assists, while playing in 148 career games, making 118 career starts and becoming the all-time winningest…

His versatility and shooting ability really stood out to our staff throughout the recruiting process. He plays the game the right way, he…

If Indiana wanted to be tested right out of the gate, they got it. The Hoosiers were never able to pull out to more than a six point lead through the first 29 minutes on Tuesday evening against Florida Gulf Coast in the 2023-24 season opener.  They led by just two at halftime (28-26), and an 8-0 FGCU run put the Eagles up 48-42 with 10:54 left in the contest.  But IU responded immediately with a 14-0 run, and although things got interesting in the final minute, they’d never trail again. Let’s take a deeper look at how the Hoosiers…

We are likely in the final days of the recruitment of class of 2024 top-20 big man Derik Queen. The 6-foot-9 Queen’s recruitment has been tight-lipped throughout, but here in the late stages it seems fairly clear where things stand. Reports from all of the three main national recruiting outlets have come out in the last couple days, and they’re all saying the same thing about the Baltimore, Md. native who attends Montverde Academy in Florida. First, no one seems to know where Queen is headed to play college basketball, but they all believe this is a recruitment that has…

If there’s one glaring question surrounding the IU basketball program as the 2023-24 season gets set to tip on Tuesday, it’s guard depth. That’s especially true since it isn’t clear if one of the guards on the roster, freshman Jakai Newton, will play at all this season. Combined, Xavier Johnson and Trey Galloway are going into their tenth season of college basketball, so Mike Woodson has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to experience. But beyond that duo, who will start on Tuesday when the Hoosiers face Florida Gulf Coast (6:30 p.m. ET, BTN), there is far more uncertainty.…

Tom Allen’s voice has been a mess since fall camp started in early August. Every time you hear him speak you’re reminded, the seventh-year head coach is still all-in on righting the IU football ship that two weeks ago seemed to be unavoidably sinking. But over the last two weeks we’ve been reminded loud and clear — Allen’s voice, however damaged, is still resonating within his program.  Considering the circumstances after a 1-5 start including a third straight loss to Rutgers, it’s impossible to ignore how well Indiana has played the last two games. As the losses mounted this fall,…

The IU football program has remained relatively healthy this season, but the wide receiver unit has suffered a major loss. Starting wideout Cam Camper is out for the season, head coach Tom Allen announced on Monday. “Had a procedure done over the weekend, and just to try and help him for his long-term, and excited about the procedure going well and getting him 100 percent healthy for the future,” Allen said. Camper was IU’s leading receiver a year ago before suffering a season-ending knee injury.  The same knee has been problematic for Camper in 2023, and a decision was reached…

That didn’t last long. The Golden State Warriors have recalled forward Trayce Jackson-Davis from the team’s G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors, it was announced on Saturday. The move came one day after he was assigned to Santa Cruz, the Warriors’ G League affiliate. Jackson-Davis is averaging 6.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 12.5 minutes in two games with Golden State. Warriors veteran Draymond Green is known for speaking out, and he immediately voiced his opinion on Friday — Jackson-Davis should be with the NBA franchise. “I also think our young fellas not being here, Trayce and [Brandin Podziemski] and…
