IU baseball outfielder Devin Taylor has a chance to challenge Kyle Schwarber’s standing as the highest draft choice in program history. Just a day after the completion of the 2024 MLB Draft, Baseball America published a projection of the 2025 Draft. Indiana has been after 2025 point guard Mikel Brown for more than two years. And their initial scout and projection on a then young and unranked 5-foot-10 prospect has proven to be prescient. Now 6-foot-3, Brown is a 5-star in the rising senior class according to the On3 Industry Average.  He’s the No. 12 overall player, and the No. 2 point guard nationally according to that outlet. IU football tight end James Bomba is the program’s 2024 nominee for the prestigious annual Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. A native of Bloomington, Bomba received a scholarship prior to the 2022 season.  He became the third generation of his family to earn a football scholarship to Indiana.  His father, Matt Bomba (1990-92), was a walk-on that earned a scholarship, while both of his grandfathers, Brad Bomba (1954-56) and Bob Van Pelt (1964-66), were on scholarship at IU. Dante Nori chose not to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather.  They both played baseball at Indiana.  He chose Mississippi State. But as it turned out, Nori will be skipping college altogether, and there’s a good chance he’ll be reunited with an IU baseball legend in the near future. And it’s someone he knows well. When Indiana offered Virginia-based forward Nate Ament a year ago, he was a highly-ranked prospect on the radar of several top programs. Now he’s a consensus top-10 5-star in the 2025 class, and the main schools recruiting him are most of the biggest brands in college basketball. At 6-foot-9 with versatile inside-and-out skills, Ament is the prototype for the modern game. Indiana baseball’s Nick Mitchell was chosen Monday in round four of the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft, while former Hoosiers Carter Mathison and Connor Foley went in the fifth round. All three are Indiana natives. An outfielder, Mitchell was chosen with the 136th overall pick by the Toronto Blue Jays.  His fellow outfielder Mathison went with the 162nd pick to the Phillies, while Foley was taken by the Diamondbacks with the 164th pick. IU baseball pitcher Luke Sinnard has come full circle after suffering a serious injury at the 2023 NCAA Regional in Lexington. Although he missed the entire 2024 campaign following Tommy John surgery, the 6-foot-8 righthander from Hendersonville, Tenn. was selected with the 99th overall pick in the third round of the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft by the Atlanta Braves. Now fully recovered, Sinnard pitched for scouts in Bloomington and made a trip to the 2024 MLB Draft Combine where he was a standout with his spin rate and velocity numbers. Indiana doesn’t have a long, storied history of successfully recruiting players from South Bend, Ind. But it has happened. Damezi Anderson is the most recent example, but you had to go back to the 70s to find a South Bend product who went to IU before him.  And the northern Indiana city has certainly produced talent in recent years, with NBA guards Blake Wesley and Jaden Ivey both playing high school basketball in the area in the last five years. Last week saw all of the top national talent in the class of 2025 in action at various events. And starting on Thursday, college coaches were out for the first July live period. All of that activity brought news as it relates to Indiana’s top targets in the rising senior class. Priority 2025 guard Jalen Haralson has visits scheduled to Indiana, Notre Dame and Michigan State already, and he told Adam Zagoria this weekend he wants to expand that list to include Auburn, Duke, Kansas, Gonzaga and Purdue.  Haralson has a top-nine that includes all of those schools.  He wants…

Most sport books are putting the over/under for IU football’s projected win total in 2024 at 5.5. But football analytics outlet Pro Football Focus (PFF) has a bit more promising outlook for the Hoosiers. First the not so pretty.  PFF has slotted Indiana in at just 87th nationally in their power rankings, with a two percent chance to win the Big Ten. But the outlet is projecting 6.7 wins for Curt Cignetti’s first IU team.  They say Indiana has a 72% chance to reach bowl eligibility.
