Indiana’s season ended in heartbreak in South Bend. With the College Cup on the line, the Hoosiers and Notre Dame couldn’t break a 1-1 tie in regulation or two overtimes. The Irish got the best of IU 5-4 on penalty kicks and advanced to college soccer’s final four. Indiana’s first attempt in the penalty shootout hit the post, and Notre Dame made the Hoosiers pay, scoring all five of their shots. The Hoosiers fell behind in the first half after Notre Dame scored on a free kick from roughly 20 yards out in the 17th minute. Indiana midfielder Patrick McDonald…

It’s going to be quite a ride in the coming weeks as new IU football coach Curt Cignetti rebuilds the IU roster and staff. As we’ve already seen with his assistant coaches, it would be reasonable to expect some influence from Cignetti’s No. 24 ranked 11-1 James Madison team. JMU starting quarterback Jordan McCloud plans to enter the transfer portal, and he’s certainly someone Cignetti could try to bring with him to Bloomington. The 6-foot and 200-pound McCloud threw for 3,413 yards and 32 TDs in 2023. He completed 68.9% of his passes and threw nine interceptions. He also ran…
Down a starter, Indiana flashed its best 32 minutes this season at a good time — at the start of the Big Ten season. IU jumped on Maryland from the outset, and claimed a 16-4 lead with 13:51 left in the first half. The Terps would never lead and never get closer than seven, and IU went into the half with a 40-28 edge. A 10-0 early second half run by the Hoosiers was decisive. Indiana led 61-39 with 8:08 remaining but got sloppy down the stretch and Maryland was able to make the game look closer than it actually…

Indiana starting point guard Xavier Johnson will not play against Maryland in Friday’s Big Ten opener for both teams. The sixth-year point guard emerged from the IU locker room in street clothes and a boot on his left foot. Johnson suffered an injury during Indiana’s win over Harvard on Sunday during the first half and did not return. In six games this season, Johnson is averaging 10.5 points, 2.3 assists and 2.2 rebounds over 24.5 minutes per contest. Johnson missed most of the 2022-23 season after breaking his right foot. He received a medical hardship waiver during the offseason that…
New IU football coach Curt Cignetti is on the ground in Bloomington and things are moving quickly. According to a report by Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, Indiana is expected to hire several key components Cignetti’s James Madison staff. That includes offensive coordinator Mike Shanahan, defensive coordinator Bryant Haines, and quarterbacks coach Tino Sunseri. Quarterbacks have flourished at JMU under the trio of Cignetti, Shanahan and Sunseri over the last three years, combining for 10,816 yards, 119 TDs, 18 INTs. James Madision ranked 33rd in total offense in 2023, and 29th in 2022 — the program’s first two years in FBS. They…
Indiana University Vice President and Director of Athletics Scott Dolson has named Curt Cignetti the 30th head football coach in program history. Cignetti posted an 11-1 record in 2023, his fifth season as James Madison head coach. He had an overall mark of 52-9 (.853), including a 19-4 run over 2022 and 2023, JMU’s first two years as an FBS program. Dolson released a statement on Thursday afternoon. “I am very excited to welcome Curt Cignetti as the head football coach at Indiana University,” Dolson said. “We had a very talented and deep pool of candidates, and Curt stood out…

With basketball fully underway at all levels, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo updated their 2024 NBA mock draft. In 2023 Indiana placed two players in the draft, and the ESPN duo believes the Hoosiers will see another player chosen next June. IU big man Kel’el Ware is off to a strong start for coach Mike Woodson, averaging 17.7 points and 8.8 rebounds while shooting 63.9 percent from the field and showing off a diverse skill set. ESPN projects Ware will be chosen in the first round next June, with the 22nd pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. That spot…
Indiana saw two of its starters contend with injuries during a win over Harvard on Sunday in Indianapolis. One is still carrying a questionable tag the day before IU’s Big Ten opener against Maryland. Sophomore forward Malik Reneau left the Harvard game briefly with what appeared to be a lower back issue. He returned to the floor, however, and did not appear to be significantly limited. Head coach Mike Woodson said in a Zoom availability on Thursday Reneau is ready to play against the Terrapins (7 p.m. ET, BTN). Reneau has become one of IU’s most reliable scorers as a…
