Former IU basketball head coach Mike Davis was announced on Wednesday as an assistant at Memphis under Penny Hardaway. Davis comes to Memphis after spending the last six seasons as head coach at Detroit Mercy (2018-24). He coached his son there for five seasons. Davis’ coaching resume touts 35-plus years of experience on the sideline, including 24 years of head coaching experience with 14 postseason trips. His squads have recorded at least 20 wins nine times, while posting a winning record in 15 of his 24 campaigns. “I am excited to have coach Davis as part of our program,” Hardaway…

Week two of the 2024 NFL season is in the books, and that means it’s time to check in on former IU football players in the NFL. Here’s an overview of the players on NFL rosters and practice squads, and how they did in week two: ON NFL ROSTERS: Dan Feeney, OL, Minnesota Vikings: Now in his eighth season in the NFL, Feeney is the longest-tenured Hoosier in the league. Playing for his fourth franchise, Feeney saw the field in week two for the Vikings on five special teams snaps. He currently has a backup role along the interior of…
Below is an overview of the snap counts and PFF grades for Indiana’s defense from the 42-13 win at UCLA. Also added are some notes on players standing out nationally on the season through three weeks. At 95.9, Indiana has the third-best overall team score in the nation according to PFF, behind just Ole Miss and Miami (Fla.). DEFENSIVE LINE James Carpenter played 44 snaps and earned the lowest overall defensive grade on the team. Although he registered a sack, Carpenter’s night appears to have been graded poorly due to his tackling in run defense. Marcus Burris played 41 snaps…
For the Monday Night Football broadcast duo of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, bragging rights were on the line when Indiana faced UCLA on Saturday at Rose Bowl Stadium. Of course by now you’re very familiar with how that game turned, a dominant 42-13 win by the Hoosiers, who moved to 3-0 under the direction of head coach Curt Cignetti. Buck’s broadcasting career began in 1989, while he was a telecommunications undergraduate at Indiana University. The son of legendary St. Louis Cardinals radio voice Jack Buck, Joe was hired before he graduated from IU. He went on to calling play-by-play…
It’s been hard to find much to be critical about when it comes to IU football through the first three weeks. But one area the Hoosiers must clean up before they resume the Big Ten gauntlet — penalties. Indiana (3-0) ranks No. 112 (out of 134) FBS teams with a total of 25 penalties called against them thus far. They’re No. 116 with 232 total penalty yards. On the one hand, these numbers further substantiate just how good Indiana has been when they get through a play without a flag. The Hoosiers have outscored their opponents 150-23, and produced triple…
Below is an overview of the snap counts and PFF grades for Indiana’s offense from the 42-13 win at UCLA. Also added are some notes on players standing out nationally on the season through three weeks. At 95.9, Indiana has the third-best overall team score in the nation according to PFF, behind just Ole Miss and Miami (Fla.). QUARTERBACK Kurtis Rourke played every snap (65). Despite what appeared to be an exceptional game, Rourke’s PFF grades were only mediocre. It’s hard to get a great read on why PFF reaches those marks, but it would appear a lack of big…
Class of 2025 5-star Jalen Haralson has cut two planned visits and he’s nearing a decision. The 6-foot-6 in-state guard/wing told national 247Sports reporter Eric Bossi he won’t take previously planned visits to Kansas or Missouri, and he’s moving up a trip to Purdue to this coming weekend. That should be the end of Haralson’s visits, and a decision should be forthcoming soon thereafter. “I’m getting close to that decision and I think that I will make it really soon. I don’t know the exact date yet but I think it will be really soon after I get back from…
After a 42-13 win at UCLA and a 3-0 start to the 2024 season, IU football is now firmly on the national radar. Indiana received seven votes in Sunday’s top-25 Coaches Poll following week three. That effectively places them as the No. 39 team in the nation according to the coaches. They received one vote the previous week. Meanwhile in the AP Top-25, IU received 13 votes in the poll released on Sunday, placing them at No. 34. The Hoosiers have not been ranked in the AP Top-25 or the Coaches Poll since a week one loss at Iowa in…
Indiana hasn’t just started the 2024 season 3-0. They’ve started 150 to 23. Or 50 to 7.7 per game, if you prefer. Group of Five, FCS, Big Ten — so far it hasn’t mattered. The only constant has been complete and total domination by Indiana under new head coach Curt Cignetti. They’ve set their single game scoring record. They posted their biggest margin of victory in the Big Ten since 2019, and their biggest Big Ten road margin since 2001. They still haven’t even committed a turnover while forcing six. The Hoosiers have a legitimate quarterback. Kurtis Rourke has completed…
PASADENA, Calif. — Indiana defeated UCLA at Rose Bowl Stadium on Saturday evening by a final score of 42-13. Here’s three quick reasons why IU opened Big Ten play with a convincing road win. The Hoosiers (3-0, 1-0) will host Charlotte next Saturday in Bloomington. 1. A quick start. Indiana scored a touchdown on their first drive, and then recovered a UCLA fumble on the Bruins’ first play from scrimmage. With a short field, the Hoosiers scored again quickly, claiming a 14-0 lead with 7:28 left in the first quarter. From there UCLA was on their heels, and Indiana had responses…
