Indiana continues to struggle to build on its one player class of 2025. On Friday afternoon, Icelandic 7-footer Leo Curtis announced he has committed to Arizona State. Curtis took an official visit to IU in December when the Hoosiers hosted Minnesota. Curtis told the Arizona State 247Sports site he chose the Sun Devils because of the relationships he built, and because “they have a modern style where their bigs do everything, shoot, attack and play fast.” Indiana has one player currently in their 2025 class, Indiana native and Montverde Academy 6-foot-7 forward Trent Sisley. It appears Indiana fans won’t have to wait long for a decision by Bosnian sharpshooter Harun Zrno. The 6-foot-7 Zrno was at IU earlier this week for a three day official visit during which he watched multiple practice sessions and attended IU’s 82-69 win over USC on Wednesday. Zrno has since left Bloomington for Wisconsin, and also has visits to Creighton and Virginia scheduled over the next week before he flies back over the pond.  He’s being joined on his US tour by his father and sister. The 2024 NFL regular season came to end last weekend.  Several former Indiana players saw action during the year, headlined by two former teammates. Micah McFadden and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine were both integral players on their teams, and by some measures had their best seasons in the NFL. In total, eight players who ended their college careers as Hoosiers saw the field in the NFL in 2024.  Others who spent time at IU and played this season are noted below as well, along with IU players on practice squads. Indiana has picked up a commitment from Tennessee transfer tight end Holden Staes. A product of Atlanta, Staes has caught 31 passes for 318 yards and five scores over his three seasons. The 6-foot-4 and 250-pound Staes has one season of eligibility remaining. Staes played at Tennessee in 2024 after two seasons at Notre Dame.  In total he has played in 35 career games (22 at ND, 13 at UT) and made 12 starts. Indiana took care of business in what was effectively a final tune up before things get real. The Hoosiers were very sluggish out of the gate, and fell behind 22-12 midway through the first half.  But they closed the first half with a 26-16 stretch, and opened the second with a 27-14 first 12 minutes.  That created enough margin to put the Trojans away. BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana defeated USC on Wednesday evening at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall by a final score of 82-69. IU junior forward Malik Reneau will miss a second straight game on Wednesday evening when Indiana hosts USC (7 p.m., BTN). Reneau (14.1 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 2.3 apg) was injured in the opening minute of the Hoosiers’ win over Rutgers last week.  The injury relates to Reneau’s right knee.  He did not suffer structural damage and is not expected to be out long term. Senior forward Luke Goode started in place of Reneau on Sunday and is expected to continue in that role tonight. Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Allen — man it feels strange to type that — told reporters on Wednesday he stayed in touch with his former Indiana players, including at least one this week. IU center Oumar Ballo has clicked the turbo button. And like any good sports car, the he needs space to operate at peak performance. The 7-foot and 265-pound Ballo has been dominant in Indiana’s 2-0 resumption of Big Ten play, and that coincides with Indiana playing almost exclusively with a 4-out scheme, or even 5-out when Ballo frequents the perimeter to set screens. What does a 12-3 start and 3-1 record in the Big Ten mean for Indiana’s outlook in March? Roughly halfway through the 2024-25 season, IU basketball is squarely on the NCAA Tournament bubble according to the most recognizable name in bracketology.
