All three IU basketball assistants to attend USA Basketball camp for key 2024 recruiting targets

It’s getting down to closing time in the class of 2024.

Indiana is sending all three of its assistant coaches on Sunday to the 2023 USA U19 Men’s National Team Training Camp at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

At least four of the program’s main targets in the rising senior class are expected to be at the event, and each of the three IU assistant coaches — Kenya Hunter, Yasir Rosemond and Brian Walsh — are planning to be in Colorado to watch them participate in the camp.

Here are the four IU targets expected to be playing at the Team USA Camp:

Dylan Harper is the No. 1 player in the entire 2024 class according to some outlets.  The New Jersey product visited IU in November and has the Hoosiers in his final five.  The 6-foot-5 Harper is the younger brother of former Rutgers star Ron Harper, Jr., and many believe that Rutgers, IU and Duke are the main three contenders for the combo guard.

Liam McNeeley is a top-10 5-star who recently named a final six that includes IU.  The 6-foot-7 McNeeley visited Bloomington in September and may be returning later in the summer for a senior year official visit.  The Texas native has also visited the University of Texas recently, and the Longhorns are thought to be a strong contender as well.

Asa Newell is also a top-10 5-star who visited IU last fall.  His recruitment has been relatively quiet of late, but the power forward consistently mentions the Hoosiers as one of the main schools involved in his recruitment.  Georgia is another school regularly mentioned for the 6-foot-9 Newell.  His brother plays for Georgia and his family is from Athens, Ga., home of the University of Georgia.

Derik Queen is yet another 5-star the Hoosiers are pursuing.  He visited IU at the same time as McNeeley.  Queen has consistently been one of IU’s main 2024 big men targets since they offered him two years ago.  The 6-foot-9 Queen hasn’t named any top schools to this point, but Indiana is a top contender.

McNeeley, Newell and Queen are all teammates at Montverde Academy.  They play on three different AAU circuits, so this is a good opportunity for the staff to see all three at once.

Harper is an AAU teammate of Tyler Betsey, another 2024 5-star who is visiting Bloomington next week.

2024 point guard Boogie Fland was named to the original invite list but he is not on the current roster.  He’s visiting IU next week as well.

Indiana sophomore forward Kel’el Ware was also on the original invite list, but as we reported on Friday, he is not expected to attend the camp.
