2022 top-30 power forward Malik Reneau likely to visit IU

Indiana has at least one open spot on its 2022-23 roster, and they certainly wouldn’t mind filling it with another 5-star from national prep school powerhouse Montverde Academy.

As we previously reported, the Hoosiers are recruiting 6-foot-8 power forward Malik Reneau, a Montverde teammate of 5-star class of 2022 IU point guard signee Jalen Hood-Schifino.

A 5-star himself according to the 247Sports Composite, Reneau told Rivals’ Rob Cassidy he is likely to take a visit to Bloomington soon.  Reneau informed Cassidy he doesn’t have any visits set on the calendar, but he offered that Indiana is a trip he intends to make.

“Coach Woodson has reached out and he really wants me to come on a visit. I think I’ll do that one,” Reneau told Cassidy.

Reneau came back on the market recently after signing with Florida after Mike White departed that program to take the opening at Georgia.

Hood-Schifino and Reneau are good friends, although Reneau told Cassidy the IU signee doesn’t try to influence his decision too much.

Along with Indiana, Reneau is considering Florida State, Georgia, and Miami.  Since freshmen typically arrive on campus in early June, his timeline for making a decision should be relatively quick.

Along with Hood-Schifino and 2023 5-star Kwame Evans, Jr., who included IU in his final five on Monday, Reneau helped lead Montverde to a championship at the GEICO Nationals over the weekend.  He averaged 14.3 points and 8.3 rebounds over three contests against elite prep school competition.

While they already have a spot open on the roster, Indiana is currently waiting on stay-or-go decisions by front court starters Trayce Jackson-Davis and Race Thompson, a factor that could influence Reneau’s decision.
