Indiana U.S. Senators Todd Young and Jim Banks collaborated to introduce a resolution to the Senate honoring the 16-0 national champion IU football team. The resolution passed the Senate unanimously.
“Tonight, the Senate passed a resolution I introduced with Senator Banks celebrating the national champion Indiana Hoosiers,” Young wrote on X. “Congressional recognition will give IU fans one more way to Google the wins from this historic season.”
“Tonight the Senate passed Senator Todd Young and I’s resolution celebrating Coach Cignetti and Indiana football’s historic 16-0 championship season. They made our whole state proud. Go Hoosiers!” Banks wrote.
The resolution includes a reference to center Pat Coogan’s now famous pregame speech to the team ahead of the Purdue game in which he described them as a bunch of misfits.
“Whereas this self-described team of “misfits” inspired Hoosiers throughout their incredible season…” the resolution reads.
The full resolution is below.
