Two IU football players sign training camp deals with Giants, Barner drafted by Seattle

Two former Hoosiers signed training camp deals with the New York Giants, while another was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks.

One-year wide receiver DeQuece Carter and veteran long-snapper Sean Wracher will both be with the Giants for training camp.

After transferring in from Fordham following the 2022 season, Carter appeared in all 12 IU games in 2023 with three starts.

Carter caught 27 passes for 395 yards and three TDs on the year for Indiana.  His 90-yard receiving touchdown at Penn State (10/28) was the third longest passing play in IU history and fifth longest play from scrimmage in program history.

Wracher appeared in all 57 career games over the last five seasons at Indiana.  He served as the primary long snapper every game of his career and IU never had a miscue that came as a result of a bad snap during his time in Bloomington.  He was named semifinalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award, which is awarded to the nation’s best long snapper.

A 2023 Kelley School of Business graduate and Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Wracher was tabbed third-team All-Big Ten at long snapper by Phil Steele.

Meanwhile, former IU tight end A.J. Barner was drafted in the fourth round of the NFL Draft by Seattle.

He transferred to Michigan from Indiana after three seasons in Bloomington.

Barner was an IU team captain in 2022 as a junior. He started eight of Indiana’s 12 games, and played in 10 total. But he struggled with injuries that season, limiting his snap counts and productivity. Barner caught 28 passes for 199 yards and three touchdowns on the year.

He moved into the starting role in 2022 after current NFL tight end Peyton Hendershot departed. As a sophomore, Barner recorded 14 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown while playing in all 12 games. He saw action in eight games as a freshman but primarily on special teams, and he didn’t record a catch.

No 2023 Indiana players were drafted this year.  On Saturday, both Aaron Casey and Andre Carter signed free agent contracts with the Bengals and Jaguars, respectively.
