Trey Galloway and Anthony Leal are returning for fifth years with Indiana men’s basketball

Indiana men’s basketball had four players participate in senior day festivities on Sunday at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

But only two are leaving the program after this season.

Senior guards Trey Galloway and Anthony Leal each announced during their senior day speeches on the court that they’re returning to the Hoosiers for the 2024-25 campaign. Both players had their extra year of eligibility afforded to student-athletes who participated in COVID-impacted seasons in 2020 and 2021.

Galloway was one of Indiana’s team captains this year, along with Xavier Johnson. He’s been a fixture in IU’s starting lineup for the last two seasons, and will enter next year as the team’s unquestioned leader. He’ll have a good chance of entering Indiana’s 1,000-point club next year as well.

The Culver Academies product is averaging career highs in points (10.8), assists (4.8), and steals per game (1.2). Galloway has also added 2.9 rebounds per game, and he owns a 46.2 field-goal percentage and a 25.3 clip from the 3-point line.

Leal, a former Indiana Mr. Basketball at Bloomington High School South, spent his first three seasons at IU tucked away at the end of the bench. But this season, he’s turned into a reliable reserve option for Woodson. He’s played 14.5 minutes per game this year — a higher average than all other IU bench players aside from Johnson. Leal has recorded 2.3 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game on the season, while shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from 3-point range.
