BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana defeated Michigan on Saturday at Memorial Stadium by a final score of 20-15.

For the first time in program history, the Hoosiers reached the 10 win mark.  It’s just the eleventh time Indiana has defeated Michigan, and the second time in five years.

Below are three quick reasons why the Hoosiers won, along with highlights and final stats.  Indiana (10-0, 7-0) will have a week off before traveling to Ohio State on Nov. 23.

Stay tuned for more coverage of the game from The Daily Hoosier.

THREE QUICK REASONS WHY INDIANA WON

    1. Defense makes a stand.  With the offense struggling, Indiana’s defense had a solid afternoon, limiting Michigan to 206 yards of offense.  The Hoosiers didn’t have a sack, but they posted four tackles for loss, eight pass breakups, and three QB hits.  Michigan QB Davis Warren completed just 50 percent of his throws, and the Wolverines averaged just two yards per carry.

    2. Winning ugly.  For the first time all season, IU had to gut out a win when the offense wasn’t clicking.  The Hoosiers made enough plays in all phases to pull out a physical, low scoring game where the offense only had 246 yards, and just 18 in the second half.  But the defense kept forcing field goals, after the offense made some big plays in the first half.

    3. Special teams steps up in the fourth quarter.  James Evans hit a bad punt early in the fourth quarter to set up a Michigan touchdown drive.  But he hit a 52 yarder later in the quarter to flip the field.  Then Ke’Shawn Williams returned a Michigan punt 22 yards to set up a key field goal that gave IU a five point lead.  That was Nicolas Radicic who connected from 41 yards with under three minutes left to force Michigan to have to score a touchdown to win it.  Instead, the defense made another stop.
