Just ahead of the Peach Bowl in Atlanta, IU football coach Curt Cignetti was asked about an article in which a former player said he’s never happy.
“I mean, there’s a lot of times I am happy, I just don’t show I’m happy,” Cignetti responded.
“If I’m going to ask my players to go play one to play 150 the same regardless of the competitive circumstances, then I can’t be seen on the sideline, right, high-fiving people and celebrating or what’s going to happen? What’s the effect going to be, right?”
That effect of that response appears to have been the inspiration for a new State Farm commercial you’ll likely see plenty this fall.
Interacting with Jake from State Farm, Cignetti’s stoic demeanor is highlighted as he learns about the company’s personal price plan.
“Thanks Jake, I’m so excited. I can’t stop smiling about it,” a straight-faced Cignetti said.
Shot in July and staged at his fictional home, Cignetti is seen on a motorcycle, an elliptical machine, and gardening, all with his hands on his hips, never changing his expression.
It’s as if his Hoosiers are beating Purdue 52-0 in the fourth quarter, and the third string offense just had a pre-snap penalty.
