Troy transfer guard Tayton Conerway will withdraw his name from consideration for the NBA Draft ahead of the early entry withdrawal deadline on Wednesday. He’ll finish his college career at IU.
That expected news came according to a Monday report by Jon Rothstein.
Conerway was the Sun Belt Player of the Year in 2024-25, averaging 14.2 points, 4.8 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 2.9 steals on 47.1% shooting from the field in 34 games. He helped lead Troy to the NCAA Tournament. Conerway ranked third in the country in steals, setting a single-season program record with 98.
He was not invited to the NBA Draft Combine. The 23-year-old has a strong chance to be Indiana’s starting point guard this season.
Under NCAA rules, college players who entered the draft early must withdraw by 11:59 p.m. ET on May 28 to retain college basketball eligibility.
Former Hoosier Mackenzie Mgbako entered the draft early and announced Tuesday morning he’s withdrawing as well. He’ll play for Texas A&M in 2025-26.
Mgbako had a strong showing at the G League Elite Camp and was invited to the combine as a result. Here is what ESPN’s Jonathan Givony wrote about Mgbako following the combine.
Four games at the G League Elite Camp and combine highlighted a different side of Mgbako, a ruthless scorer who racked up 72 points in 85 minutes while shooting a scorching 13-for-23 (57%) from 3 in Chicago. He played hard defensively and on the glass, and didn’t force many poor shot selections like he has in the past.
In a league obsessed with size and shotmaking ability at every position, Mgbako’s bucket-getting prowess at 6-9 is intriguing, even if he has work to do on his body and overall athleticism.
Slated to transfer to Texas A&M, it will be interesting to see how Mgbako, 20, looks in a different setting next year, as he did a good job of resurrecting his NBA standing in front of a host of decision-makers, although perhaps not to the point of warranting guaranteed money in the NBA or potential NIL opportunities as an Aggie.
If Mgbako can bottle up his combine performance and replicate it across a full season in the SEC, he can position himself to be a top-40 pick in a year.
Mgbako has had a strong predraft process after earning a call-up from the G League Elite Camp to the combine. He averaged 15.5 points and eight rebounds in two scrimmage games at the combine, which stood out among the performers.
Several Big Ten players have entered the draft early and are expected to stay in, including Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey from Rutgers, Danny Wolf (Michigan), Jase Richardson (Michigan State), Derik Queen (Maryland), and Kasparas Jakucionis and Will Riley (Illinois).
Here are some other Big Ten NBA Draft decisions to monitor in the days to come that will have an impact on the conference in 2025-26:
- Yaxel Lendeborg, Michigan
- Yanic Konan Niederhauser, Penn State
- Nate Bittle, Oregon
- John Blackwell, Wisconsin
- Nick Martinelli, Northwestern
- Bruce Thornton, Ohio State
Story was updated to reflect Mgbako’s Tuesday morning announcement he’s returning to college.
