For the second straight week, IU football has achieved an all-time best national ranking.
Following a loss by Miami and a 38-13 Indiana win over Michigan State in week 8, the Hoosiers have moved up to No. 2 in the new coaches poll released Sunday afternoon.
The 7-0 Hoosiers will host UCLA on Saturday at Noon ET (FOX). Indiana and UCLA beat Michigan State by the exact same score.
Ohio State is the consensus No. 1 team in the latest coaches poll. If both the Buckeyes and Hoosiers win their remaining games they’d play a No. 1 vs. No. 2 Big Ten Championship game in Indianapolis in early December.
Also ranked by the coaches from the Big Ten are No. 6 Oregon, No. 23 Illinois and No. 24 Michigan. USC, Iowa, Washington and Northwestern are all receiving votes.
Indiana is also No. 2 in the new AP poll, again behind only Ohio State. IU did receive six No. 1 votes in the AP poll. 21 of the 88 (24%) weeks Indiana has ever been ranked in the AP poll have come in the last two seasons.
Also ranked from the Big Ten in the AP poll are Oregon (6), Illinois (23) and Michigan (25). USC and Minnesota are also receiving votes.
In the computer models, Indiana dropped two spots to No. 4 in ESPN’s FPI, and held at No. 3 in ESPN’s SP+. FPI gives IU a 96.2% chance to beat UCLA next weekend.
