MEMPHIS — Indiana wants a point guard in the class of 2024, and they are on track to have one of the best among the rising seniors on campus in June.

5-star New York product Boogie Fland told The Daily Hoosier on Sunday he’s planning to take an official visit to Bloomington in June.  He didn’t have specific dates when we caught up with him at the Memphis Sports and Events Center.  He’s in the process of getting dates confirmed with Indiana and other programs as he starts to focus in on his recruitment.

Indiana offered Fland more than a year ago and went to watch his Stepinac H.S. team during the season.  But things appear to have intensified recently.  Fland says he talks to the whole IU coaching staff, and he took notice of the one-and-done season freshman point guard Jalen Hood-Schifino had in 2022-23.

“I like what they (Indiana) did with him (Hood-Schifino),” Fland told The Daily Hoosier.  “They put him in the draft.  They play my style, and I like their player development.”

Fland acknowledged the way IU used Hood-Schifino is a good fit for his strengths as a point guard.  He’s very good at reading high ball screens and getting to open spots to either score or facilitate for his teammates.

The 6-foot-3 Fland was clearly struggling with an injury that he played through over the weekend, and that impacted his performance.  But his ability as an elite playmaker is no longer in question at this point.  Fland can score in just about every way.  He’s had multiple 30-plus point games this spring for the PSA Cardinals on the Nike EYBL Circuit, including six games when he made at least three 3-pointers.

At Stepinac, Fland averaged 18.1 points, 3.7 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 2.0 steals while leading the school to city and state titles.

According to the On3 Industry Average, Fland is a 5-star prospect, the No. 8 overall player in the 2024 class, and the No. 1 point guard.

Fland told The Daily Hoosier that the main schools he is talking to right now are Kentucky, Indiana, UConn, Oregon, Alabama and “a couple other schools.”

Fland is one of several class of 2024 5-stars likely to visit Indiana this summer.  For more on that, GO HERE.
