Priority 2023 in-state forward Xavier Booker to take October official visit to Indiana

Indiana is continuing its push for one of the top in-state players in the class of 2023.

Indianapolis Cathedral High School forward Xavier Booker will take an official visit to Bloomington in a couple weeks The Daily Hoosier reported first through a source.  Booker confirmed with The Daily Hoosier the visit is from Oct. 21 through the weekend.  IU football hosts Ohio State that weekend.

The 6-foot-11 Booker took an unofficial visit to IU in June.  The IU staff watched Booker on several occasions throughout the spring and summer.  Indiana coaches Mike Woodson, Kenya Hunter and Yasir Rosemond all visited Booker at a September workout as soon as in-person contact was allowed.

Booker was impressed with the IU staff after his June stop in Bloomington.

“They like building relationships with the players,” Booker told The Daily Hoosier in June. “He showed videos of him when he was the coach at the New York Knicks. He showed a lot of their players saying good things about him. It really meant a lot, seeing that.”

After a relatively quiet first two years of high school, Booker began to emerge in the spring while playing for the George Hill All Indy AAU team.  He began hearing from IU in April.

Booker projects as a stretch four at the next level due to his versatile inside-out game.  He is a capable 3-point shooter and has respectable ball handling skills for his size.  He adds to that a plus-wingspan that he utilizes on both ends of the floor.

“The thing that really stands out to college coaches is his length,” Cathedral head coach Jason Delaney told The Daily Hoosier about Booker. “He’s so long and he’s able to block shots and get different places on the court, and he’s able to elevate over other people because he’s got that length.”

Along with Indiana, Booker has offers from Kansas State, Louisville, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Illinois, Clemson, Butler, Michigan State and Purdue.  He is ranked No. 37 nationally by Rivals.

Here are some of Booker’s highlights from the summer via a new reel by Inc. Tapes.
