Football data and analysis site PFF says Indiana has three of the top-50 players in college football going into the 2025 season.
And while these three Hoosiers will come as no surprise, it’s PFF’s unique methodology of grading players that further substantiates the preseason hype surrounding D’Angelo Ponds, Mikail Kamara and Elijah Sarratt.
Using PFF’s exclusive data and grading, they’ve identified the most dominant and valuable players in the country, based on proven production and projection.
Here is where they landed in the PFF College 50: The 50 best players in college football ahead of the 2025 season.
24. CB D’Angelo Ponds, Indiana
Ponds is the third-best cornerback in the nation coming into 2025 according to PFF.
His 91.8 PFF overall grade over the past two years is the highest among all returning FBS cornerbacks. He consistently earns high marks both as a tackler and in coverage.
Most teams will hesitate to throw in Ponds’ direction, leaving Indiana opportunities to key in on the rest of the field.
36. EDGE Mikail Kamara, Indiana
Kamara is the eighth best edge in the nation according to PFF, and the No. 1 in the Big Ten.
He led all FBS edge defenders with 67 pressures in 2024, and his 28 combined sacks and hits were the third most in the nation.
There’s talk of moving Kamara from edge to stud in 2025, but don’t be surprised to see him doing a little bit of everything for maximum impact.
38. WR Elijah Sarratt, Indiana
Sarratt is the fourth-highest rated receiver in the nation according to PFF.
They say only Jeremiah Smith and Jordyn Tyson recorded more receiving yards than him (957) in 2024 among returning Power Four wideouts, and his 16 contested catches tied for the seventh most among Power Four receivers.
Sarratt’s 90.3 PFF overall grade over the past two seasons leads all returning FBS receivers, as do his 2,156 receiving yards — nearly 400 more than any other returning wideout.
PFF RANKS INDIANA NO. 17
In their preseason team power rankings, PFF ranks Indiana No. 17 in the nation.
In the Big Ten they trail Ohio State (1), Oregon (2), Penn State (6), and Michigan (12).
Here are the projections PFF provides for IU in 2025:
Strength of schedule: 67
Projected win total: 7.92
Projected chance to make a bowl game: 89.08%
Projected chance to win conference: 4.86%
Projected chance to make the playoff: 21.21%
Projected chance to win the national championship: 1.27%
A year ago PFF only slotted IU in as the No. 87 team, but they did forecast bowl eligibility.
