No. 14 Indiana women handle business at Wisconsin

Indiana’s game at Wisconsin was closer than expected, but the Hoosiers took care of business.

No. 14 IU women’s basketball got the job done at Kohl Center, coming out with a 68-54 victory on Wednesday. This was Indiana’s 10th straight win over the Badgers.

Indiana (21-3, 12-2 Big Ten) established a comfortable lead in the second quarter after a tight opening period. The Hoosiers led at halftime, 41-25. Wisconsin (11-12, 4-9) climbed back into the game in the third quarter, but IU pulled away in the fourth quarter with a 15-4 run in the first five minutes.

For the second straight game, an IU player made history. During Sunday’s win over Purdue, Mackenzie Holmes became the program’s all-time leading scorer. Wednesday was Sara Scalia’s turn. The fifth-year broke Amanda Cahill’s program record for 3-pointers made in a single season, with 79 and counting. She took sole possession of that record on her fourth 3-pointer of the game Wednesday, late in the third quarter.

Scalia, on the night, shot 5 for 12 from the field and 4 for 8 from beyond the arc for 15 points.

Holmes led the Hoosiers with 24 points on a 11-for-19 line. The graduate student added eight rebounds, four steals, and a block.

Chloe Moore-McNeil continued her outside shooting tear, going 4 for 4 from 3-point range — she went 5 for 5 on Sunday. The senior finished with 12 points, and a team-high five assists with no turnovers.

IU has now won three straight games, and seven of its last eight.

Indiana is back in action on Monday afternoon at Illinois.
