On Tuesday evening former IU baseball star Kyle Schwarber produced just the 52nd 50 home run season in Major League Baseball history.
The accomplishment is a new career best for Schwarber, who prior to this year had produced six career seasons with 30-plus home runs and two seasons of 40-plus homers, topping out at 47 in 2023. The 32-year-old is now at 334 home runs for his career.
Long ball No. 50 also allowed Schwarber to pass Ted Kluszewski for the all-time single season home run record by a Hoosier.
On Tuesday Schwarber crushed the 437-foot milestone home run against the Mets as part of a 9-3 Phillies win.

Schwarber joined Ryan Howard (58 home runs in 2006) as the only Phillie with 50 homers in a season. Home run No. 50 was Schwarber’s first since his historic four-homer game against the Braves on Aug. 28.
On the season, Schwarber is now hitting .240 with the 50 homers and 123 RBIs.
