The IU football program updated their 2025 roster on Wednesday afternoon, and that always brings about a few updates on the players.

The headline news today was that 2024 starting cornerback Jamier Johnson is no longer with the team.

Here are a few more player notes from the updated 2024 roster:

Nick Kidwell (OL) – The veteran offensive lineman has decided not to seek an additional year of eligibility and he is no longer on the roster, The Daily Hoosier has learned.  Kidwell appeared to be on track to start at guard in 2024 before suffering a season-ending injury during fall camp.  He would have needed to receive a medical hardship waiver to play an eighth season in 2025.

Josh Philostin (CB) – Philostin has entered the transfer portal, The Daily Hoosier has learned.  He missed the 2024 season with an injury.  He was the No. 52 cornerback in the 2024 class according to On3.

Cooper Jones (OL) – Jones did not return to the team in 2025, The Daily Hoosier has learned.  Jones came to IU as a defensive end from Valparaiso H.S. (Ind.) before he switched to offensive line in 2023.  He played in 30 games at IU.

Solomon Vanhorse (RB) – The veteran running back remains on Indiana’s roster, which indicates he likely has or will pursue a medical hardship waiver for an eighth season.  Vanhorse was with James Madison from 2018 to 2023 before transferring to IU.  He redshirted in 2018, the 2020 season didn’t count against eligibility, and he suffered season-ending injuries in both 2022 and 2023.  In 13 games he caught one pass for 14 yards, and returned five kickoffs for 102 yards in 2024.

Tyler Cherry (QB) – Cherry is still with the program but not on the 2025 roster.  According to a report by the Indy Star, the quarterback will serve as a student coach through the 2025 season as he recovers from a knee injury suffered in December.  Cherry should return to the roster in 2026.

Indiana’s spring game is April 19 at Noon ET.

The Hoosiers open the 2025 season on Aug. 30 against Old Dominion.
