IU football: Quarterback Jack Tuttle joins Michael Penix, Jr. with “week-to-week” label, Allen talks other injuries

Who will line up under center Saturday at Maryland is anyone’s guess right now.

Indiana quarterback Jack Tuttle has joined Michael Penix with a “week-to-week” label according to head coach Tom Allen on Monday at his regular Monday press conference.

“Don’t know as of right now his (Tuttle’s) status, same with Michael (Penix) he’s still week-to-week,” Allen said.

Tuttle was 4-of-7 for 41 yards and a touchdown against Ohio State, but he suffered the injury on the scoring throw.  The nature of the injury has not been disclosed beyond it being related to his foot.  Tuttle had x-rays during the game on Saturday and had an MRI later in the weekend.

“The MRI (on Tuttle) showed us it wasn’t as bad as it could have been was the first word I was given, but definitely created some unknowns for him to be able to know his status moving forward on a day-to-day basis,” Allen said.  “Hopefully he’ll be able to recover from that as efficiently as possible.”

Penix has been out since suffering a separated throwing shoulder at Penn State on Oct. 2.  True freshman Donaven McCulley and walk-on Grant Gremel split the quarterback duties against Ohio State once Tuttle went down.

Indiana has also been without its starting cornerbacks for each of the last two games.  Allen spoke briefly on Tiawan Mullen and Reese Taylor.

“Tiawan played a few snaps (against Ohio State), hopefully he’ll get better this week,” Allen said.  “Did not play near what we hoped he’d be able to play but he is progressing.  Same with Reese, we continue to work with those guys.”

Indiana and Maryland kick off at Noon Eastern in College Park.
