Indiana fell to 6-1 with a 19-15 loss to Ohio State Saturday afternoon in Bloomington.
The full defensive snap counts from the game are below.
But first, here are some position-by-position notes on the defense coming out of the contest.
For a look at the offense vs. Ohio State, GO HERE.
Defensive Line
Stephen Daley had the best overall defensive grade on the team according to PFF. He had three quarterback pressures, and all four of his tackles were registered as “stops,” which are tackles that constitute a failure for the offense.
Tobi Osunsanmi led the team with four QB pressures and two sacks, and Mario Landino also had three pressures and two sacks. IU registered 17 pressures as a team, and it had four sacks and six tackles for loss.
The rotation shrunk in this one. Daniel Ndukwe and Chiddi Obiazor did not play on defense.
Linebackers
Freshman Jacob Savage continues to see his role expand. He played a career high 43 snaps, which builds on a career high in snaps the week prior at Nebraska. Savage had the top pass rush grade on the team as he got pressure on two of four attempts to get to the quarterback. He also posted a strong tackling grade.
PFF did not like the performances by Isaiah Jones and Rolijah Hardy against the pass but gave them both solid run defense and tackling grades. They led the team in snaps. They were two of multiple players with an expanded field to cover due to added attention given to Jeremiah Smith.
Safeties
Amare Ferrell had the top run defense grade on the team, and he had the second-best coverage grade. The fourth-year was everywhere, with seven tackles, two interceptions, and two pass breakups. He only allowed one reception on five targets.
IU didn’t use the rover role heavily in this game, and instead went with more three linebacker looks against OSU’s personnel. That meant low snap volumes for Byron Baldwin and Quan Sanks.
Preston Zachman was the lone IU defensive starter who had relatively poor marks at PFF across the board. He did register a PBU.
Cornerbacks
A.J. Harris fully returned to his week one starting role. He had the top tackling grade on the team. The Hoosiers tackled better in this game than the week prior. PFF says IU only missed two tackles.
Jamari Sharpe was targeted eight times and only allowed three receptions. He had a pass breakup on Ferrell’s first interception and added another PBU.
Harris and Sharpe were the only two cornerbacks to play. After starting several weeks, Jaylen Bell did not see the field on Saturday.
