Indiana and the Gophers tip off at 7 p.m. ET on BTN.

    ———————————————————————–

    FINAL: Indiana 64 – Minnesota 73

    Image

    SECOND HALF

Minnesota is pulling away. 65-55 with 3:54 to play.

    • This should serve as a huge wake-up call to Indiana. The Gophers have been able to get easy looks and have shut down IU defensively. Minnesota has also dominated the glass, 33-20.
    • The game isn’t quite over yet. The Hoosiers need to string a couple of stops together and need to get Wilkerson or DeVries open. Darian DeVries said his team needs to find ways to win in situations like this, but we’ll see how they fare.

The Gophers lead 53-51 with 7:47 to play.

    • IU comes up with a 6-0 run off the back of two made three-pointers from Wilkerson and DeVries. One came from transition, and another with the shot clock winding down. Indiana needs a combination of stops and scores to regain control.
    • Alexis, Conerway, and Wilkerson all have 10 points to lead Indiana. An even scoring effort is fine, but it’s unclear who the ball is going to when the game winds down. Minnesota is still doing a good job on defensive possessions.

Minnesota leads 46-43 with 10:49 left.

    • IU is on the verge of letting this one slip away. Their offense is just so stagnant right now. DeVries and Wilkerson have combined for just 11 points on 3-for-14 shooting. Someone needs to step up on offense.
    • Cade Tyson is also starting to warm up. He’s up to 12 points and coming out of the break with a chance at two more at the free throw line.

Indiana trails 38-35 with 15:47 left in the game.

    • IU’s offense continues to look out of sorts. Indiana has a field goal drought extending into the end of the first half, as they continue to struggle to get open looks for DeVries or Wilkerson.
    • Indiana has played some very solid defense, but it still hasn’t been able to fully capitalize. Tayton Conerway has four steals, and the Hoosiers have forced 11 turnovers in total.

    FIRST HALF

IU leads 29-22 with 3:39 to play.

    • Trent Sisley has caught three early foul calls in the first half and heads to the bench. Looks like we won’t be seeing much of him until the second half.
    • Minnesota has struggled from beyond the arc so far, shooting just 1-9 from three-point range. Indiana has done well to limit Cade Tyson, who has six points.

Indiana retakes a 22-19 lead with 7:45 to play.

    • Tayton Conerway has really started to pick things up in these past few games. He’s up to 10 points with two made from outside. As long as he keeps penetrating the paint, open looks for him and others will keep coming.
    • IU has forced five turnovers early against Minnesota. Conerway is credited with two steals. The Gophers have the edge on the boards, though, and have six points off of offensive rebounds.

Minnesota takes a 17-14 lead with 10:33 in the half.

    • IU looks all out of sorts on offense. The Gophers are taking away everything on the perimeter, and Indiana hasn’t found a way to adjust to it. They’ve started 1-5 from beyond the arc.
    • Aleksa Ristic has checked in and is getting his first minutes of action. He’s another guard who can facilitate and be a potential danger off the dribble.

Hoosiers lead 12-9 with 14:57 left in the first half.

    • Minnesota is playing some high pressure on the perimeter defensively. They’re not taking a chance for any open looks for the Hoosiers. IU has found some success on the block with Alexis and Bailey, though.
    • Tayton Conerway leads all scorers early with five. He could be a real difference maker in a game where the Gophers are playing high pressure.

    PREGAME NOTES

    • Aleksa Ristic has been upgraded to questionable for tonight against the Gophers. It would be his first collegiate game if he plays. Drake and Harris both remain out.
    • With it being IU’s first Big Ten game, I am interested to see how effective their play style translates. Minnesota plays a slower, inside-focused game. Whether that can be exploited or be tough to overcome remains to be seen.
    • Starting five remains the same: Enright, Conerway, Wilkerson, DeVries, Bailey
