Tennessee big man J.P. Estrella could be one of multiple names to know from the Volunteers program since IU has their former assistant coach Rod Clark on staff. Estrella announced Monday he is entering the transfer portal. Clark was the primary recruiter of Estrella for Tennessee.
The 6-foot-11 and 240-pound Estrella is from Scarborough, Maine. He attended Brewster Academy in New Hampshire for high school.
As a redshirt sophomore in 2025-26, Estrella played in 33 games with 13 starts for Tennessee, which advanced to the Elite 8. He posted 10 points and 5.4 rebounds per game in 18.4 minutes per contest. He shot 59.6% from the field overall, including 40% from three on low volume (4 of 10). Estrella made 45 of 71 from the free throw line (63.4%). He had 12 blocks on the season. Estrella had a 14 point, 10 rebound game in Tennessee’s NCAA Tournament opening round win over Miami (Ohio).
Estrella has two years of eligibility remaining.
As a sophomore in 2024-25, Estrella averaged 4.7 points and 2.7 rebounds per game across the first three contests of the year, shooting 6-of-9 from the floor, before his season ended due to injury. He had surgery on his left foot.
In his 2023-24 freshman season, Estrella appeared in 25 games, including eight of the final 10, totaling 40 points and 20 rebounds in 124 total minutes of court time. He went 15-of-21 (71.4 percent) from the floor to record the second-best field-goal clip among SEC players with at least 20 attempts and fifth-best mark among DI freshmen with 20-plus shots.
