Could new IU basketball coach Darian DeVries utilize the transfer portal to reunite with another one of his former Drake players?

Texas Tech sophomore guard Kevin Overton is entering the transfer portal according to multiple Sunday evening reports.  He played for DeVries at Drake as a freshman where he was a teammate of new IU guard Conor Enright and forward Tucker DeVries.

Through two collegiate seasons, Overton has 676 points (9.5 ppg), 249 rebounds (3.5 rpg), and 70 assists (1.0 apg) through 71 career games.  His career shooting splits are 43.2 percent overall, 34.4 percent from three on 297 attempts, and 78.8 percent at the stripe.

The 6-foot-5 and 200-pound guard is a product of Oklahoma City.

As a sophomore at Texas Tech, Overton averaged 7.8 points and 3.7 rebounds, scoring in double figures in 11 games. He matched a season-high with 20 points against Arizona in the Big 12 Championship semifinals and also had 20 points in a non-conference win over Northern Colorado.  He played in 36 games for the Red Raiders and started once.

With DeVries at Drake in 2023-24 as a true freshman, Overton averaged 11.3 points and 3.3 rebounds.  He started all 35 games.  Overton earned Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman honors, was a four-time MVC Freshman of the Week and helped his team win the MVC Tournament championship for an automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

Overton shot 62-for-179 (34.6%) on 3-pointers in his first collegiate season with a career-best five threes in games against Murray State and Oakland.

Prior to college Overton played a postgraduate year at Sunrise Christian in Kansas.  There he led the team in scoring and steals as part of a 30-win season.  He was ranked as the No. 7 player in Kansas and was a 3-star recruit out of high school.

Overton has two years of eligibility remaining.
