IU basketball recruiting: Hoosiers offer class of 2022 top-30 forward Julian Phillips

Assistant coach Yasir Rosemond is locked in on bringing length to Bloomington during his early days on the IU staff.

South Carolina forward Julian Phillips is the third class of 2022 forward in the last five days with ties to Rosemond who received a scholarship offer from Indiana.

Phillips announced the IU offer on his Twitter page.

The 6-foot-8 Phillips hails from Blythewood, S.C., just outside of Columbia.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Phillips is the No. 26 player overall in the class of 2022, and the No. 7 power forward.

247Sports’ national scouting director Jerry Meyer recently had this to say of Phillips in February:

“He has definite NBA athleticism, plays with a significant motor, is comfortable with the basketball and is refining his scoring ability,” Meyer wrote.

For AAU basketball Phillips is playing for Upward State on the Adidas circuit this spring and summer.

Phillips has over 25 offers, and in early April he told Rivals’ national analyst Jamie Shaw who was standing out prior to Indiana’s offer.

“I would say I am talking to Ohio State, Florida State, Wake Forest, Alabama and Clemson the most recently,” Phillips told Shaw.

Phillips is the third forward from the Southeast with connections to Rosemond to receive an offer from IU over the last week, joining Kaleb Banks and Noah Clowney.
