IU basketball recruiting: Hoosiers offer class of 2022 top-100 big man Favour Aire

After a wave of class of 2022 guard offers, Indiana has found its next frontcourt target.

IU has offered Maryland based junior center Favour Aire.  The Daily Hoosier has learned that Indiana extended the scholarship offer to Aire earlier this week.

Aire is the latest of several prospects that new IU assistant coach Kenya Hunter is recruiting from Washington D.C.’s so-called “DMV” basketball hotbed.  Specifically, Aire hails from one of the more fertile areas in the country when it comes to hoops talent — Prince George’s County.

The 6-foot-10 plus Aire is relatively new to the United States, arriving from from Nigeria in 2017. He played for District Heights (Md.) Bishop McNamara for his sophomore season.

Already with an impressive physique for a junior, Aire also has been reported to have a 7-foot-4 wingspan while weighing around 215 pounds.  Still relatively raw, Aire’s strengths are scoring around the basket, rebounding, and protecting the rim.

On film, Aire shows good mobility and he runs the floor well.  He has respectable skills with the ability to use his off hand, and Aire can create scoring opportunities through his moves in the paint.  In sum, Aire has the look of a player that can develop into a high-impact player at the high major level.

For his sophomore season, Aire averaged 14.4 points, 14.1 rebounds and 3.4 blocks per game.  For AAU, Aire plays with the DMV based New World program on the Adidas circuit.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Aire is the No. 88 player nationally in the class of 2022, and the No. 9 center.

Aire also currently has offers from Maryland, Virginia Tech, LSU, Louisville, Pitt, Georgia, Rutgers, Georgetown, Rhode Island, and others.  UConn was also involved and had offered before Hunter made the switch to Indiana.  We’ve confirmed that the new IU co-associate head coach is leading the charge with Aire for the Hoosiers.

Aire joins Dayton product Shawn Phillips as just the second true post presence in the class of 2022 to receive an IU offer. To see all of Indiana’s class of 2022 offers and prospects, GO HERE.
