IU basketball recruiting: Hoosiers offer 2025 Georgia-based guard Akai Fleming

Indiana has formally entered the mix for an up-and-coming guard out of Georgia.

Class of 2025 shooting guard Akai Fleming announced an offer from IU on his Twitter page on Monday evening.

This is how 247Sports national analyst Brandon Jenkins described Fleming after watching him at an event earlier this month:

“A 6-foot-4 long and skinny two-guard, Fleming as the early tools in his toolbox to be a high major target down the line,” Jenkins wrote.  “He can slice through a defense, has a great early feel playing off a ball screen, and shows signs of elite athletic ability and body control that will only be maximized as he and his game mature.”

Fleming saw the floor plenty as a freshman at Osborne H.S. (Marietta, Ga.) and his minutes and production increased steadily as the season progressed.  He played just 13.5 minutes per game for the season but 15 or more over the last nine contests.  Fleming averaged 5.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game in those 13.5 minutes.

For spring and summer basketball, Fleming plays for the 15u Atlanta Celtics on the Adidas 3SSB circuit.  That’s the program that IU freshman Kaleb Banks played for.  He’s averaging 17 points against good competition while making 38.4 percent of his threes on the circuit this year.

Fleming does not appear in the very early rankings for the 2025 class.

Indiana is Fleming’s fourth Division One offer, following Alabama, Kansas State and Kennesaw State.  As is the case with most Georgia-based products, you can expect IU assistant Yasir Rosemond to take the lead on this recruitment.
