IU basketball recruiting: Hoosiers offer 2022 4-star top-60 forward Kyle Filipowski

After more than a year keeping an eye on Kyle Filipowski, Indiana extended a scholarship offer this week.

Filipowski is a name we brought you last May, and now after his continued emergence and Indiana’s reconstruction of its coaching staff, the Hoosiers have decided to take things to the next level.

The 6-foot-10 Filipowski announced the offer on his Twitter page.

Filipowski attends the Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Massachusetts.  The school is part of the highly competitive NEPSAC basketball league in New England.

Wilbraham & Monson did not have a normal season due to the pandemic.  Instead the program played in five exhibition games for his junior season.  As a sophomore, Filipowski averaged 20.1 points, 10.5 rebounds, and one block while shooting 55 percent from the field overall including 35 percent from 3-point range.

For AAU basketball Filipowski is playing for the New York Renaissance, a Nike EYBL program. 247Sports’ national analyst Eric Bossi gave this assessment of Filipowski after watching him a couple weeks ago.

“The key with Filipowski is that he blends skill with some toughness and a great motor,” Bossi wrote.  “He was running the floor, played strong around the rim, showed that he can shoot comfortably from behind the three-point line and he crashed the glass.”

Filipowski is current ranked No. 58 overall in the 2022 class according to the 247Sports Composite.  He is the No. 10 power forward and the No. 1 player in Massachusetts according to that same service.

Iowa, UCLA, and Ohio State were the three pushing the hardest according to Bossi’s report.  UConn and Syracuse are also key players in his recruitment.
