Class of 2026 wing Anthony Thompson decided to stay home. He’ll play for the Ohio State Buckeyes, he announced on Tuesday morning.
This concludes a roughly two-year recruitment for IU that spanned the last two Indiana coaching staffs.
Darian DeVries and his assistants pulled IU off the mat and had the Hoosiers as one of just a handful of serious contenders in the end for Thompson.
But the Lebanon, Ohio product chose to play in his home state. He’s the first 5-star to commit to Ohio State since 2014.
At the moment, IU still has just one commit in their 2026 class — combo guard Prince-Alexander Moody.
WHERE DO THE HOOSIERS TURN NEXT IN THE 2026 CLASS?
Indiana had a player on campus this past weekend with a similar skill set to Thompson — Wisconsin-based wing Vaughn Karvala. He appears to be down to Indiana, California and Xavier, with a decision coming very soon.
Zooming out to all positions, the Hoosiers also had 7-foot center Arafan Diane on campus this past weekend, and 7-footer Ethan Taylor was in Bloomington a couple weeks ago. Both should be announcing decisions within the next few weeks.
Indiana is in the final six of 2026 guard Jordan Smith, Jr., but to this point IU hasn’t been able to secure an official visit. He’s a former AAU teammate of Moody.
Also still in the 2026 picture are a trio of international forwards — Miikka Muurinen, Luigi Suigo, and Sayon Keita. The latter two have been on the IU campus, while Muurinen has Indiana as one of his finalists.
Indiana can obviously turn to the transfer portal and decommitments in the spring to address roster needs as well.
