June is setting up to be a busy month in Bloomington as in-person recruiting reopens.
Already we’ve told you about planned June official visits at IU by class of 2022 top-100 forwards Kyle Filipowski and Justin Taylor. Joining them will be Fayetteville, Georgia based top-100 forward Kaleb Banks.
The 6-foot-8 Banks told Hoop Seen digital media producer Austin Smith in an interview you can watch below that he has scheduled an official visit to Indiana beginning on June 10.
“I have an official visit lined up already with Indiana the weekend of June 10,” Banks told Smith. “I’m happy to go on campus and see everybody and meet all the coaching staff and meet Coach Woodson, so hopefully that goes well. They’ve got some nice fans I’ve heard so far.”
In a recent conversation with The Daily Hoosier, Banks shared his thoughts on Indiana head coach Mike Woodson and the program.
“I like Coach Woodson and his NBA background,” Banks said. “I like Indiana as a whole. I like the fans. I like the tradition. It’s just a good basketball school. I feel like it fits me well. At the rate the game is going, with the versatility I bring to the table, it seems like what this guy is looking for.”
Indiana offered Banks a scholarship soon after new assistant coach Yasir Rosemond was hired in April. Rosemond hails from Atlanta and trained Banks before joining the staff.
Banks plays school ball for Fayette County. As a junior there he averaged 23.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while shooting 63 percent from the field overall including 38 percent from behind the arc on 105 attempts. He led Fayette to the Class 4A state finals in March. He is a 4-star according to the 247Sports Composite, which lists him as the No. 93 overall player in the 2022 class and the No. 16 power forward.
While he is listed as a four, Banks has been focused on moving his game out to the perimeter this spring with the Atlanta Celtics travel team.
“He’s got an ability to score the ball at all three levels,” his AAU coach Greg Robinson told The Daily Hoosier two weeks ago. “Create his own shot and be able to flow athletically. His handle is really a work in progress. He started developing it last summer and throughout the school year he got so comfortable with it. We put a lot of responsibility on him as a creator for our team this summer. He’s really flourishing in that role. We like his progress for sure. I think he’s better at being patient. Last year he was really quick. Now we’re getting him to slow down, use his talents and a little more of his IQ. ”
Banks said he also has an unofficial visit lined up at Alabama. He has an offer from the Crimson Tide along with Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State and Xavier.
