The new Indiana staff has re-offered class of 2026 point guard Tay Kinney this week.

Kinney is the No. 18 overall player in the 2026 class according to the latest On3 industry average.  He’s a consensus national top-5 point guard in the class.

The prior IU staff offered Kinney a scholarship in February of 2024.

In December Kinney announced his recruitment is down to 15 schools — Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Cincinnati, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Kansas State, Kentucky, Louisville, Notre Dame, Oregon, Purdue, Tennessee, and Xavier.

The school to note of those 15 appears to be Tennessee, where new IU assistant coach Rod Clark was on staff until last week.  Clark is now on campus and working for the Hoosiers, and he appears to be the connection as it relates to revitalizing IU’s pursuit.

The restart with Indiana will come with some familiarity for Kinney.  He came to IU for Hoosier Hysteria in 2023, visited for a game during the 2023-24 season, and Indiana brought his high school team to Bloomington for their team camp last June.

“The (IU) campus is nice, the arena is great,” Kinney told TDH last summer.

Kinney is originally from Newport, Ky. and the home state Kentucky Wildcats are expected to make a strong push.  He transferred to Overtime Elite ahead of his junior season.

As a junior, the 6-foot-1 Kinney averaged 20.1 points and 5.0 assists this season with RWE Elite in the Overtime Elite organization in Atlanta.

Kinney plays for the Wildcats Select team on the Adidas 3SSB circuit in the spring and summer.  He’s not expected to make a college decision until late summer at the earliest.

His junior season highlights are below.
