BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana defeated Sam Houston on Tuesday evening at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall by a final score of 97-71.

Indiana led 42-25 at halftime.  The Hoosiers were led in the game by Myles Rice with 19 points.  Luke Goode and Malik Reneau each added 18.

The three keys to the game, highlights and final stats are below.

Indiana (6-2) returns to action on Friday evening in Bloomington against Miami (Ohio).

    THREE KEYS TO THE GAME

    1. Luke Goode leads good bench production.  Senior wing Luke Goode caught fire from three-point range and posted a career-high 18 points.  He made 5-of-7 from three.  Overall IU outscored Sam Houston’s bench 36-10 as the Hoosiers utilized smaller lineups to make their biggest runs of the game.  From a plus/minus standpoint, reserves led the way.  Anthony Leal was +39, Bryson Tucker +31, and Goode +23.

    2. Defense limits threes and second chances.  Indiana eliminated two problems that have troubled them throughout the young season.  The Hoosiers outrebounded the Bearkats 37-25, and allowed just five offensive rebounds and no second chance points.  Meanwhile, Sam Houston made just 6-of-17 from three.  That’s not a bad percentage, but the volume of attempts was notable as Indiana was generally effective at running the Bearkats off the arc.

    3. Living at the line.  Indiana got plenty of opportunities at the free throw line.  And they took advantage.  The Hoosiers made 22-of-29, with Oumar Ballo providing four of the misses.  To this point of the season the charity stripe has been a strength of this IU team.
