BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana defeated Purdue on Sunday afternoon at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall by a final score of 73-58.

Purdue led at halftime 37-25.  The Hoosiers were led in the game by Trey Galloway and Malik Reneau with 15 points apiece.

The three keys to the game, highlights and final stats are below.

Indiana (16-11, 7-9) will host Penn State on Wednesday evening.

    THREE KEYS TO THE GAME

    1. Incredible start to second half.  After an ugly finish to the first half, IU outscored Purdue 28-3 over the first eight minutes of the second half.  It was one of the best stretches of basketball by the program in at least a decade, if not more.  The second half rally came on the heels of a Purdue 21-6 flourish to end the first half.  IU’s defense made the difference, holding Purdue to 30% shooting and 11 turnovers (.677 points per possession) in the second half.

    2.  Keeping Purdue’s stars in check.  Braden Smith and Trey Kaufman-Renn are both likely to earn first team All-Big Ten honors.  But the pair combined for just 17 points on 6-of-19 shooting.  The duo came in averaging over 35 points per game.  Of particular note, the pair combined for just two points on 0-of-5 shooting after the break with eight turnovers.

    3.  Hoosiers keep turnovers low.  Indiana had 20 turnovers in their close loss at Purdue a few weeks ago.  But they committed just seven on the day and posted an 18-to-7 assist to turnover ratio.  Trey Galloway led the way for IU with nine assists against just two turnovers.  Malik Reneau and Anthony Leal both chipped in with four assists.
