THREE KEYS TO THE GAME
1. Sharp ball movement leads to crisp offense. Indiana put on an offensive clinic sharing the basketball. An array of back cuts, kickouts, lobs, and extra passes had Bethune-Cookman on their heels and in constant rotation. The Hoosiers had 27 assists on 36 field goals and only turned it over seven times. IU shot 54.5% from the field, 38.7% from three, and 84.2% from the free throw line. Conor Enright led IU with seven assists, and Tucker DeVries and Tayton Conerway each had five.
2. Lockdown defense. The Hoosiers were equally sharp on the defensive end. The Wildcats have some legit scoring threats in Arterio Morris, Jakobi Heady and Quentin Heady, but Indiana kept them all in check. That trio of Bethune-Cookman leading scorers combined for just 8 of 28 shooting. As a team Bethune-Cookman made just 31% of their shots including just 20% from three. They added 11 turnovers.
3. No letdown. Indiana didn’t look sharp in its two previous games against mid/low-majors. And sandwiched between a big win over Kansas State and the start of Big Ten play, IU was in a prime spot to have a letdown. But the Hoosiers started fast, jumping out to a 10 point lead just four minutes into the game. It was a 20-point IU edge with 8:34 left in the first half, and Bethune-Cookman never got closer than 19. It was a very comfortable, business-like win for Indiana.
