CAROLINA, Puerto Rico — Indiana guard Jason Drake did not make the trip to Puerto Rico this week due to an injury.
It’s not yet clear when the injury was suffered, nor do we know the severity.
Following his team’s 98-47 win over the Universidad de Bayamon Wednesday evening, IU coach Darian DeVries was asked about the status of Drake.
“He’s dealing with a lower-body injury right now,” DeVries said. “We’ll have more on that later.”
The injury might go back at least a week. Drake could be seen riding a stationary bike during Indiana’s open practice last week.
If he returns, Drake is competing for a spot in Indiana’s backcourt rotation as a combo guard.
Last year at Drexel, Drake started all 33 games and averaged 11.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 26.2 minutes per game.
Junior wing Nick Dorn is also dealing with an injury, but while unavailable to play, he did travel with the team. Dorn is not limping or utilizing any special medical devices based on what can be seen.
Last week DeVries said Dorn is likely to return sometime in the fall.
Indiana is without a total of three scholarship players in Puerto Rico. Bosnian center Andrej Acimovic is not yet with the team.
