For the fourth season in a row, Indiana softball is heading to the NCAA Tournament.
The Hoosiers are the No. 3 seed in the Knoxville regional, with No. 1 seed Tennessee (No. 7 overall), No. 2 Virginia, and No. 4 Northern Kentucky. IU will open regional play against the Cavaliers on Friday, May 15 at 8 p.m. ET. The winner of that game will take on the winner between the Volunteers and the Norse Saturday for a spot in Sunday’s regional final. The losers will face off in an elimination game Saturday.
Indiana enters the tournament with a 42-14 overall record. Shonda Stanton has now won at least 40 games in three of the last four seasons.
IU got solid output both offensively and defensively to get back to postseason action this year. The Hoosiers’ pitchers finished 43rd in the nation and second in the Big Ten with a 3.20 ERA, and their 1.30 WHIP ranked 30th in the country and third in the conference. At the plate, IU posted a strong .454 on-base percentage (fourth in the country, second in the Big Ten) and a .625 slugging percentage (seventh in the nation, third in the conference).
Individually, catcher Avery Parker placed fifth in the Big Ten and tied for 23rd nationally with 65 RBIs. She hit 19 home runs this year, becoming the program’s all-time leader with 53..
Indiana also traveled to Knoxville for the 2023 NCAA Tournament, where it reached the regional final with two wins over Louisville but couldn’t overcome the No. 4 overall-seeded Vols.
