Indiana legend, IU fan John Mellencamp to make appearance on Big Noon Kickoff

Indiana native and rock and roll legend John Mellencamp will make an appearance at FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff at Memorial Stadium on Saturday morning according to IU Athletics.

Mellencamp is well known to be a major supporter of IU Athletics and a big fan of the school’s programs.

He made the major financial contribution in connection with the on-campus indoor practice facility that bears his name — The Mellencamp Pavilion.  In the spring he gave a private concert that helped raise millions for the name, image and likeness collectives connected to IU Athletics.  Those are just some of the better known ways he has been a supporter.  He was also a frequent attendee at IU games when he was younger.

The pregame show is one of two public appearances by Mellencamp this weekend in Bloomington.  On Friday afternoon, a bronze statue of Mellencamp was unveiled at the IU Auditorium.  He made an appearance at the public event and performed outside.

Nearby on campus at the The Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art at Indiana University, Mellencamp’s artwork is on display in an exhibition called Crossroads:  The Paintings of John Mellencamp.  That exhibit runs through Dec. 15.

Now 73, Mellencamp is still a resident of Indiana.  He is a member of the Rock and Roll and Songwriters Halls of Fame.

The Big Noon Kickoff’s pregame tailgate begins at 8:30 a.m. outside the south end zone of Memorial Stadium.  The live on-air show will begin at 10 a.m.  The precise time of Mellencamp’s appearance has not been announced.

No. 16/18 Indiana (6-0) and No. 25/RV Nebraska (5-1) kick at Noon ET Saturday at sold-out Memorial Stadium (FOX).
