Hoosiers in the NFL: 2020 season week four results

Week four had a little bit of everything for former Hoosiers in the NFL.

A COVID-19 postponement, a relief job to face one of the league’s top defensive linemen, and for the fourth straight week a Hoosier scored.

Four weeks of the 2020 season are already complete for 11 former IU stars with teams in the league.

Take a look at how they did in week four with our quick weekly recap of the Hoosiers in the NFL.

Tevin Coleman (RB) – San Francisco 49ers

Coleman did not play on Sunday.  He was placed on the 49ers’ injured reserve list as he contends with a sprained knee.  The injury is not expected to be season ending and Coleman can return in a few weeks.

Under new league rules for players on injured reserve, Coleman is eligible to return for the team’s Oct. 18 game against the Los Angeles Rams,

Dan Feeney (OL) – Los Angeles Chargers

Feeney started at center for the fourth straight week.  The Chargers scored 31 points in a loss to Tampa Bay, but they struggled in the running game (23 carries, 46 yards) and allowed two sacks.  L.A. dropped to 1-3 on the season.

Jordan Howard (RB) – Miami Dolphins

Howard failed to score for the first time in 2020 as Miami fell at home to Seattle and dropped to 1-3 on the season.

Howard continues to struggle to gain yards, rushing 2 times for 2 yards.  He also caught a pass for -3 yards.

On the season Howard has 18 carries for 14 yards and 3 touchdowns.  The reception on Sunday was his first of the season.

Brandon Knight (OL) – Dallas Cowboys

After starting for two straight games, Knight came off the bench at right tackle for Dallas in a loss to Cleveland and still saw 74 percent of the snaps.  Knight came in after Myles Garrett recorded two sacks for Cleveland. Garrett did not register another sack on the day.  Dallas (1-3) rushed 18 times for 83 yards and allowed a total of three sacks.

Nice rep for Brandon Knight vs Myles Garrett. He has Zeke's help if Garrett works outside, so he's prepared to close off the inside move once Garrett commits. pic.twitter.com/YIprcV7MI2

    Wes Martin (OL) – Washington

Martin has started every game thus far for Washington at left guard.  Washington rushed 22 times for 69 yards but allowed 3 sacks.  Martin started for the ninth time of his career as Washington fell to 1-3.

Rodger Saffold (OL) – Tennessee Titans

The Titans game against Pittsburgh was postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak in the Tennessee organization.  The game will be made up on Oct. 25.

Jason Spriggs (OL) – Chicago Bears

Spriggs was active for the fourth straight week as the Bears fell to 3-1.

Nate Sudfeld (QB) – Philadelphia Eagles

Sudfeld was inactive for the third straight week.  Philadelphia improved to 1-2-1 on the season, picking up a win against a hobbled 49ers squad.

Ian Thomas (TE) – Carolina Panthers

Thomas was a bigger part of the Carolina offense.  He was targeted more times (5) than he had been the entire season through the first three weeks.  Thomas caught 2 passes for 5 yards including a touchdown.  He is up to 5 catches for 30 yards and the score as Carolina improved to 2-2.

This TD was Thomas’ fourth of his career.

Nick Westbrook (WR) – Tennessee Titans

Westbrook has been active for the last two games but of course Tennessee’s game against Pittsburgh was postponed to Oct. 25.

Simon Stepaniak (OL) – Green Bay Packers

The Packers rookie is on the non football injury list for at least the first six weeks of the season as he continues to recover from knee surgery.
