Another season of Major League Baseball has come and gone, and with that, another year of former Indiana University baseball players producing at the highest levels of the game.  Below we take a look at the former IU stars that registered statistics at the MLB or Triple-A levels during the 2018 season.

FORMER HOOSIERS COMPILING MLB STATS IN 2018

    Josh Phegley
    Position: Catcher

    Team:  Oakland A’s

    AB – 93
    R – 13
    H – 19
    BA – .204
    HR – 2
    RBI – 15
    SB – 0
    OBP – .255
    SLG – .344

Note:  The A’s have made the postseason and Phegley is on the roster as the backup catcher.

    Kyle Schwarber
    Positions: Outfielder

    Team:  Chicago Cubs

    AB – 428
    R – 64
    H – 102
    BA – .238
    HR – 26
    RBI – 61
    SB – 4
    OBP – .356
    SLG – .467

Note:  Schwarber struck out in his only plate appearance in the Cubs’ Wild Card elimination loss to Colorado.  He was also runner-up in the 2018 Home Run Derby.

    Aaron Slegers
    Position: Pitcher

    Team:  Minnesota Twins

    W – 1
    L – 1
    ERA – 5.27
    G – 4
    GS – 2
    SV- 0
    IP – 13.2
    SO – 6
    WHIP – 1.390

    Sam Travis
Positions: First Baseman and Designated Hitter

    Team:  Boston Red Sox

    AB – 36
    R – 5
    H – 8
    BA – .222
    HR – 1
    RBI – 7
    SB – 0
    OBP – .263
    SLG – .389

    HONORABLE MENTION

    Alex Dickerson
    Positions: Outfield

    Team:  San Diego Padres

Dickerson is a legitimate big league player on a serious run of bad lack.  After hitting .257 with 10 home runs and 37 RBIs in 2016, he has suffered two season ending injuries prior to the start of both the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

    HOOSIERS IN TRIPLE-A

There are several other former Hoosiers that inched closer in 2018.  The following former IU stars registered Triple-A stats during 2018.

    • Caleb Baragar (P) – Sacramento (San Francisco)
    • Joey DeNato (P) – Lehigh Valley (Philadelphia)
    • Ryan Halstead (P) – Sacramento (San Francisco)
    • Micah Johnson (OF) – Durham (Tampa Bay)
