A year ago it appeared Indiana would have four members of the McCullough family in its program by the 2023 season.
Now at most there will be one.
Deland McCullough II announced on his Twitter page Monday he has decided to walk away from the game after suffering an injury.
“After talking with my trainers and the doctors about a recent injury, I won’t be able to handle the physical demands of the game,” McCullough wrote.
“As a result, I’ve decided to hang up my cleats for good.”
McCullough II was the second member of the family to sign up to play for IU after Deland, Sr. rejoined the program from the Kansas City Chiefs to be the running backs coach in 2021.
McCullough II transferred to IU from Miami (Ohio) in April, 2021. The defensive back played in 10 games in 2021 for Indiana, primarily on special teams.
Deland McCullough, Sr. left the IU program for a second time when he took the same position at Notre Dame. Soon thereafter, class of 2023 4-star safety Daeh McCullough decommitted from IU and ultimately pledged to Cincinnati.
Dasan McCullough, a four star linebacker in the class of 2022, is still with the IU program and expected to see the field for the Hoosiers in 2022.
