This 2022 profile page covers Pennsylvania based guard Jalen Hood-Schifino

    ESSENTIALS

Status —  COMMITTED TO INDIANA — August 24

Hometown – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (Montverde Academy, Florida)
    Position – Combo guard
    Height – 6-foot-5
    Weight – 210
AAU – Team Thad (Nike EYBL)
    247 Sports Composite Rating – 4-star (No. 24)
Primary Competition – Tennessee (final two)

Timeline — Hood-Schifino will announce his college decision on August 24.

Indiana Connections — Indiana assistant coach Kenya Hunter has the key historic relationship here.  Indiana offered a scholarship soon after Hunter was hired in 2020, and his retention has allowed IU to remain a key player in this recruitment.

Numbers — Hood-Schifino played for GEICO national champion Montverde.  His junior season stats at Montverde not available.  He averaged 15.6 points, 6.0 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game as a sophomore.

Family — Mother played basketball at Lock Haven University, father played quarterback at Santa Monica College, uncle Vernon “Jake” Schifino Jr. was drafted in the NFL in 2002, uncle Drew Schifino played basketball for West Virginia and professionally overseas, cousin DeAndre Schifino played football at Pittsburgh. (All according to USA Basketball)

    RECRUITING SERVICE AND SELF-ASSESSMENTS

“He has range. He can do it all. He doesn’t settle. He mixes it up. I think that’s going to be one element. The shooting is going to be a surprise to some. He can hit it off the pick and roll. He can take a smaller guard to the whole, and he can really score at all three levels.”

    — Team Thad coach Norton Hurd to The Daily Hoosier

“Schifino possesses very good size and physical tools for the position and his frame has filled out well as he has continued to mature since our last viewings of him.  He impacts the game both on and off the ball given his innate ability to function both as a scorer and facilitator. As a scorer, Schifino connected on several mid-range pull-ups and as a facilitator he was most impactful in the pick-and-roll.”

    — 247Sports’ national analyst Travis Branham in May

“Hood-Schifino is a strong-framed guard who plays with great pace in the half court. A true point guard, he has the size (6-foot-6 and 215 pounds) to play off the ball as well. Hood-Schifino can score in the mid range and is a high-level-to-elite rebounder from the guard position. He is also carving out a reputation as a shutdown perimeter defender. So much of his skill set leads to winning games.”

    — Rivals’ national analyst Jamie Shaw

“I feel like I am a two-way guard. I play the best with the ball in my hands, but I have the versatility to play off the ball as well. Obviously, on defense, I have gotten way better. I want to guard the other team’s best player at any perimeter position. I feel like I am able to really do a lot on the floor. A lot of older people think I play like Jason Kidd, I have watched some film on him and I can see some similarities for sure.”

    — Hood Schifino’s self-scout to Rivals

    HOOD-SCHIFINO ON INDIANA

”Coach Hunter has been recruiting me the longest, so the relationship is there. He’s great. And Coach Woodson has been where I’m trying to go. Coach Woodson has had great success in the NBA. I can’t wait to see his transition on the college level.”

    — Hood Schifino to 247Sports national analyst Eric Bossi

“The history of Indiana is great. They have a new coach is Mike Woodson, who just got the job. He hit me up almost immediately after he was hired and I have gotten a good feel for him. I have been talking to coach Woodson and (assistant) coach Kenya Hunter a lot, and I am definitely excited to be going on that visit.”

    — Hood Schifino to Rivals’ national analyst Jamie Shaw
