As the afternoon went on at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, the scene was familiar. Indiana had a double-digit lead in the first half against Michigan, but the Wolverines stormed back to enter halftime down by just two points. And that surge continued out of the locker room. With the Big Ten regular season complete, Indiana men’s basketball finally knows its position for the conference tournament. The Hoosiers will be the No. 3 seed in Chicago, after they defeated Michigan and Northwestern beat Rutgers. Indiana women’s basketball was flying high in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals. But the top-seeded Hoosiers quickly crashed down in the second half in Minneapolis. Growing up in Stillwater, Minn. — around a 30-minute drive from Minneapolis — the IU guard became very familiar with the arena. Coming off its second loss of the season, Indiana women’s basketball was far from its best in its Big Ten Tournament opener. No. 9 seed Michigan State, one of just two teams to defeat the top-seeded Hoosiers this season, made life very difficult for IU for much of the afternoon. After Indiana defeated Purdue on Saturday, Mike Woodson gave his players a clear message in the locker room. He told them that, while they could celebrate the victory on the ride home, they had to refocus for Tuesday’s game against Iowa at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. After winning its first outright Big Ten title in program history, Indiana women’s basketball brought home a haul of individual honors on Tuesday. Senior forward Mackenzie Holmes was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, and Teri Moren was named Big Ten Coach of the Year. This is the second time Moren’s earned that honor, after receiving it in 2015-16. Additionally, each of Indiana’s primary six rotation players earned All-Big Ten recognition.
