Although he makes more than $4 million per year, first-year Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti looks like a steal so far compared to his national and Big Ten peers. Cignetti has the Hoosiers off to their first 6-0 start since 1967 and a No. 16 ranking in the AP Top-25. Things are set up for an exciting run from September through March in Bloomington. IU football is undefeated and achieved their highest ranking since the 2020 season this week. Meanwhile, the preseason AP top-25s for basketball were released this week for both the men and women, and Indiana was included in both polls — the men at No. 17 and the women No. 25. Urban Meyer was with the Ohio State football program the last time Indiana beat the Buckeyes in Columbus. That was 1987, and the 60 year-old Meyer was a grad assistant at the time for Ohio State.  He was there when OSU coach Earle Bruce said a 31-10 loss to Indiana was the darkest day for the Buckeye program. As expected, class of 2025 center Eric Reibe announced his commitment to UConn on Wednesday afternoon. Reibe picked the Huskies over IU, Oregon, Kansas and Creighton.  He visited Bloomington last month along with current commit Trent Sisley, and Indiana and UConn target Braylon Mullins. The 7-footer was IU’s last remaining center target in the 2025 class, although 2025 power forward target Bryson Tiller could play the position in a small ball role. Indiana extended an offer to 2027 in-state forward Jaylan Mitchell on Tuesday. The 6-foot-7 Mitchell is considered a top-five player nationally in the 2027 class according to On3, Rivals and ESPN. The Evansville, Ind. product played up a year during the travel season and averaged 13.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.2 steals. He won a Nike EYBL E16 Championship with his Brad Beal Elite team, and he competed at the USA Basketball minicamp earlier this month. Former IU basketball player Race Thompson has signed an NBA G League deal with Memphis, he announced on Tuesday. This will be Thompson’s second chance to play professionally in the United States. Thompson signed an NBA Summer League contract with the New York Knicks last June. But the six-year IU basketball power forward never made an appearance after he fractured his right tibia plateau. Thompson completed most of his rehab in Bloomington. He was around the IU team for most of the 2023-24 season, even traveling with them at times. Eric Gordon had one of the best individual seasons by a freshman in IU basketball history. While he was in Bloomington for less than a calendar year, his ties to the school, from his recruitment, his performance for IU, and the drama surrounding the 2007-08 team, made it all unforgettable. A pair of priority class of 2025 IU basketball recruiting targets are set to come off the board in the next 10 days, and both appear to be trending away from the Hoosiers. 7-foot center Eric Reibe will announce his college decision on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
