Indiana has made Bryant Haines and Mike Shanahan two of the highest-paid coordinators in college football. Based on copies of his new memorandum of understanding with Indiana obtained by TDH via records request, Haines will go over the $3 million mark in year two of his new deal.  According to recent data reported by Sportsnaut, only Penn State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles was making more in 2025, and only one other coordinator was making more than what Haines will get in year one. The first road win of the Darian DeVries era is in the books. Indiana defeated Maryland Wednesday evening at XFINITY Center in College Park by a final score of 84-66.  It was the first road win of the season for IU. The three keys to the game, highlights and finals stats are below. The first of four pregame injury reports for the Peach Bowl was released Tuesday evening. There were no surprises for IU, but Oregon will be without one of their top running backs. IU is currently reporting kickoff specialist Brendan Franke as out.  He was initially probable ahead of the Rose Bowl before being listed as out later in the week. And Indiana had just watched Alabama rally from a 17-point hole to beat Oklahoma less than two weeks earlier. The sports world is captivated by the rise of IU football. Indiana’s CFP quarterfinal win over Alabama at the Rose Bowl averaged 23.9 million viewers, a new record for the 12-team field. The game peaked at about 25.6 million viewers. That’s up roughly 13% from last season and more than 18 of the previous 22 CFP semifinals. The Rose Bowl was the most watched game of the four CFP quarterfinals by a healthy margin.  The other games each fell short of 20 million viewers. Brock Schott is headed home to play for Indiana. The Miami (Fla.) transfer tight end announced Monday he’s transferring to the Hoosiers after one season in southern Florida. As a freshman in 2025, the 6-foot-3 and 244-pound Schott appeared in two games (9 snaps) and had two catches for 24 yards.  He should have four years of eligibility remaining. At Leo H.S. in Leo, Ind., Schott was one of nation’s top-ranked tight ends by every major scouting services.  He was a consensus four-star recruit and rated the No. 244 overall player in class in On3 Industry Rankings. Indiana has added a second Kansas State defensive lineman in as many days with Kansas State’s Chiddi Obiazor. In 2025 Obiazor had 28 tackles, including 4.5 for loss, two sacks and seven quarterback hits for the Wildcats.  He’s a versatile defensive lineman who played 496 snaps, splitting time over the B-gap, over tackle, and outside.  He had 30 quarterback pressures on the season according to PFF. Indiana got the new year off to a good start. Washington led 22-17 six minutes into the game despite torrid early shooting by the Hoosiers.  But a 13-2 run put IU up 30-24 with 10:35 left in the first half.  Indiana was able to extend that margin to as much as 14 before halftime.  The Huskies got it back within four at 54-50 with 16:04 to go, but a quick 8-0 IU response gave IU a cushion they’d never relinquish.
