The Kentucky-based guard announced a final-eight on Thursday that includes Indiana, along with Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Oregon, and Texas. The 6-foot-2 Kinney, who attends Overtime Elite in Atlanta, has visited or has a visit scheduled to all of his finalists.  He’s coming to Indiana next weekend, Aug. 29-31. Kinney is the No. 15 overall player in the 2026 class and the No. 3 point guard.  He’s a 5-star at some outlets. Indiana’s prior staff offered…

Four of the top-100 players in college football will be wearing an Indiana uniform this fall, says an ESPN panel. That’s among well over 5,000 players throughout all of Power 4, and well over 10,000 throughout the FBS. Five of ESPN’s college football analysts (David Hale, Adam Rittenberg, Chris Low, Paolo Uggetti and Bill Connelly) produced the list “each using some variation of hard data and educated guesswork to compile it.” Interestingly enough, Fernando Mendoza, a player mentioned regularly by the same outlet as a potential 2026 NFL first round draft choice, is not included.  One quarterback who is included…

The San Francisco 49ers today announced they have signed QB Nate Sudfeld to a one-year deal. He’ll share the QB room with fellow former Hoosier Kurtis Rourke.  Defensive tackle C.J. West is also with the NFL franchise. Sudfeld worked out with the team on Monday before signing.  He did not play in 2024 after being released by the Lions during the preseason. The news comes after 49ers backup Mac Jones suffered what is being described as a non-serious knee injury.  Rourke is recovering from ACL surgery and is not expected to be available until later in the season. Rourke was…

The 1942 season, No. 10 on our list, referenced a highly anticipated season that never was. With the United States fully embroiled in World War II, IU football’s best and brightest traded their football helmets for the military variety. Indiana fans were left to wonder about the lost seasons of 1943 and 1944, and what could have been with a loaded roster and a program on the rise under highly respected head coach Bo McMillin. What World War II took away from the program after the 1942 season, it gave back in 1945 — with exquisite timing. As fate would…

IU football stars Elijah Sarratt, Aiden Fisher and D’Angelo Ponds were all named to the preseason AP All-American second team on Monday. This is just the latest preseason recognition for the prominent trio, who have been named to a host of watch lists. Each player earned significant postseason honors following IU’s 11-2 season a year ago. In 2024, Sarratt earned third-team All-Big Ten from the conference coaches and media.  He was graded as the No. 4 receiver in the Big Ten and No. 13 in Power 4 (80.8) per Pro Football Focus (min. 500 snaps). Fisher meanwhile earned first-team All-America…

It’s no secret that most of the physical development in college football happens in the first year. That’s why when we take a look each year at the biggest weight gainers on the IU football roster, many of the players we mention are redshirt freshmen or sophomores.  But there’s always some exceptions. Let’s take a look. Jah Jah Boyd has added 15 pounds over the last year.  Now at 5-foot-11 and 188 pounds, he should be ready for the rigors of the Big Ten.  Boyd has positional versatility and should be able to help provide depth in the defensive backfield…

The last time Indiana played a football game, Pat Coogan was playing for the other side. And when Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love ran 98 yards through Hoosier hearts, the play was sprung off Coogan’s left shoulder at the line of scrimmage. Coogan was one of Notre Dame’s most vocal leaders, well known for his inspiring pregame speeches.  On the field he helped lead the Irish to the national championship game. But the Palos Heights, Ill. product was a reserve in South Bend entering the 2024 season, and there was some thought he might return to that role in…
