Twenty years. It had been twenty years since Indiana last won an outright Big Ten title. Since then the Hoosiers had seen four different head coaches including the firing of the legendary Bob Knight. The program had fallen into complete ruin under Kelvin Sampson and suffered through three years of hell as Tom Crean attempted to resurrect it. Twenty years meant that the players on the 2012-13 Indiana Hoosiers were either not yet born or still in diapers in 1993 when IU mowed through the competition with a 17-1 Big Ten record. Needless to say, it had been a while.…

At 5-9 and 160 pounds, Archie Miller was never going to strike fear in the hearts of his opponents with his size. But give him an inch from behind the 3-point line, and suddenly, opposing teams were horrified. As the son of a high school basketball coach, Archie Miller grew up in a gym. As we’ve seen with Hoosier legends such as Steve Alford and Jordan Hulls, if you spend enough time in a gym as a kid — you can learn how to shoot the rock. When you watch video of him playing (which you can do below), two…

It was a running joke all throughout my time at IU from 1991 to 1995 and beyond. I’ll never forget the first time I laid eyes on the Hoosiers’ former home ballpark — Sembower Field. As a freshman living at the Paul V. McNutt Quad (himself a former IU baseball player prior to becoming the Indiana governor), I went months without realizing that IU’s baseball stadium was literally across the street. I had to walk by it every day to head towards campus and yet I never noticed it. The hilltop location was apparently just enough to obscure it from…
In 49 states, it’s just a game. In the state of Indiana, we need our own power rankings. Every week we’ll help settle the ongoing debate regarding who are the best college basketball teams in the state of Indiana. Here are the state of Indiana NCAA Division 1 men’s college basketball power rankings for the week ended March 4, 2018: Current Indiana teams in Joe Lunardi’s Bracketology: Purdue (2), Butler (9). 1. Purdue Boilermakers (28-6, 15-3) (B1G) – Their standing here has never really been in doubt all season. What is still in doubt is whether this fully capable team…
Indiana University basketball recruiting target Romeo Langford played two sectional games over the weekend as New Albany rolls on to the regional round of the Indiana state high school basketball tournament. The Bulldogs improved to 23-1 on the season and they have now won 20 games in a row. On Friday night New Albany handled sectional host Seymour by a score of 82-42. For the game Langford scored 32 points while his teammate Sean East, who hit 9 of his first 11 3-point attempts, added 31. That victory set up a rematch with Floyd Central. On December 8th the Highlanders took…

Updated April 7, 2018 It may seem like Indiana’s 2017 season just ended in West Lafayette, but that was more than three months ago and March is here. Spring football practice begins for Indiana on Saturday, March 2. Today we look at who is gone, who is coming back, and who is new on the the 2018 roster. A number of 2018 recruits and transfers have already enrolled and will be at spring practice. We took a look at those January enrollees a few weeks ago. Perhaps the biggest open question for 2018 was whether wide receiver Simmie Cobbs would…
The Indiana University women’s basketball team may have run out of gas after last night’s amazing four overtime thriller against Michigan State. On less than 24 hours rest the Hoosiers had to face the #2 seeded Maryland Terrapins. Indiana kept it close for much of the game but struggled to knock down shots late and Maryland eventually pulled away 67-54. Indiana shot 39% from the field for the game including only 21% from distance. Indiana now sits at 17-14 and must wait and see if their late season improvement is enough to convince the NCAA selection committee to invite them…
You know that relaxed feeling that you had when Indiana ran out to a 24-8 first half lead? The IU players had it too. And it got them beat. From that point forward Rutgers had more energy in just about every aspect of the game and it followed a red hot Corey Sanders to victory. The Hoosiers’ misery in the Big Ten tournament continues, and now they are left to wait to see if they will be invited to any postseason play. If you believe this NIT bracketology, Indiana was barely in that tournament before last night’s loss. After so…
